Hey everybody. I made my reservations for WDW (yay ) and I was wondering if I should get the dining plan. The travel agent said I could come back and let her know if I changed my mind. We are a family of four, so we were wondering if anybody had done it and if it was worth it. My brother can be a picky eater and we were also wondering if just three of us could use our tickets for a meal if he doesnt feel like eating that night.

As a Disney fanatic and a travel agent I can say the new dining plan is really worth it. It is actually electronically on each persons room key/ticket. If your brother doesn't use all his meals he won't be refunded however. But you can use the plan however you want , if you are there 5 days each person would have 5 snacks, 5 counter service meals and 5 sit down meals. If you choose to have to 2 sit down meals in one day you can or eat all your snacks in one day you have that option. Once you use your meals they are gone. The $35.00/day/adult is a great price, and with over 100 restuarants to pick from you can't go wrong.

How do I find out which restaurants are participating? I'm sure that some are not available for the dining package. Thanks

There has been a lot of debate about this on the boards lately. The best description I've seen is the Unofficial Guides:

It seems like a deal IF you maximize the plans benefits. We are giving it a try in July.

Thanks I think we are going to do it. I have one more question though. If we want to go to a restaurant that costs two and my brother still has three left and I only have one can we combine them and each have two.

If you are staying in the same room all meal credits are lumped together in an account for that room. They are not tracked separately for each person.

As I understand it, if he is in a different room he can still pay for you using his card's credits.

Thanks for those two links - very helpful. I'm curious as to why there is only one restaurant from Downtown Disney - I would think with all the restaurants there, they would be included.

Penguinboy - perhaps you should print out those links so you can take them with you on your trip - alot of information there.

I also had the same question about Downtown Disney as Skyhawk. Thanks for the advice Skyhawk, but my dad is nuts and he will probably memorize them, print them and get a book that tells us all about it too.

The restaurants in DTD are not owned by Disney. I guess they don't like the way the plan will work for them. I suspect Disney is paying them a flat dollar amount per meal and they're afraid educated guests may take them to the cleaners.

I think it's only time before we see some non-Disney restaurants either offering special price fixed menus or at least having surcharges for some menu items for MYW guests.

I definately think it is worth it! It allows you the flexibility to choose where you would like to eat..and its already paid for be4 u get there!

I just came back a few weeks ago and had the dining plan. We saved soooo much money! I think it's definitely worth it. Just make sure you pay attention to your receipts because one woman charged me a full counter service meal just for a diet coke by accident but we were able to get it fixed really quickly at the hotel info desk. They were still getting used to the system when i went but i'm sure with time it'll be a lot smoother.
