Can I pay ahead for my dining plan by calling member services or do I have to wait until check-in?

You have to tell them that you want the Dining Plan ahead of time...but you pay for it at check in. We've gotten it 3 times now and we love it!! :cool1:

How does it work for people who are renting points? Do we also have to add it on at check-in or does that get paid for in advance?

It's the same for everyone. The DDP has to be added to your reservation at least 48 hours prior to check in. The first person checking in on the reservation will pay for everyone on the reservation for the length of the reservation/plan.

That's why it's important to have you Mother-In-Law or Brother check in first. :rotfl2:

For now, you pay when you check in, but you have to add it to the reservation at least 48 hours before your check-in day. In the near future, it will be paid for when you add it to the reservation.

Do we have to have the DDP for our entire stay? We want to stay 10 nights @ DVC but only want the dining plan for seven days because we'll only have passes into the parks for seven days. Is that possible?

We gotta go see Mr. Potter...

The rules for the dining plan are the same for DVC as they are for the WDW resorts (except you don't need to buy a ticket to get the plan). All guests on the reservation must purchase the dining plan for all nights of their stay (unless they are under three years old).

So if you are staying for ten nights, you would have to have two separate reservations, meaning you would have to check out, remove the stuff from your villa, check in and move into another villa to only get the plan for part of your stay.

The number of days on your ticket have nothing to do with the number of nights of your stay or your dining plan.

Ahhh.... thank you.

I think DDP will not work for us then. Our home resort is VGC so we're going to be trying to get a place to stay at seven months out. There is no way I want to deal with trying to get two reservations too.

We've been to DW once and it was during the free dining plan time. It was a lot of food but our kids are older now so I thought we'd enjoy it more. I guess we'll stick with our original plan of no DDP. :upsidedow

The other piece, which we do, is a split stay. We are staying 3 nights at BCV and then switching to BLT for the last 3. By doing this, we can get the DDP for just those 3 nights.

Since you are going for 10 days, you may decide you want to split stay and try two resorts. This way, it would allow you to get the DDP for the first stay and not the second.

But, if moving mid trip is not something you want, then it won't work. You can only book 7 nights at a time when you call so you may find, depending on when you are going and how busy it is, you end up with a split stay anyway.

Good luck!

Please excuse me for being a DVC newbie and for tagging on to the OP’s question.

We are taking a few days at WDW before embarking on an Eastern DCL cruise while celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. My bride and I would like to use DDP to the fullest – w/o waste.

Currently – we have two reservations with a wonderful owner who has asked if we want to add DDP. Ressie one is for AKL for our first night --- ressie two is for two nights at BWV. Both have separate reservation numbers.

Question – can the DVC owner add DDP to the second reservation --- so we only getting TWO plans – not three?

Also...we are waitlisted to move our AKL Savannah view to spend all three nights at BWV. Not sure if this is a mistake...just not looking forward in switching hotels – rooms within the same hotel is ‘bad’ enough. All are welcome to comment on making swaps between DCL properties – or – same one. If we are blessed to have all three night at BWV – would this change our option in only requesting DDP for two day/nights?

Thank you for posting and offering suggestions – you have helped our previous WDW/DCL vacations become better.

Yes, you can add DDP to one reservation but not the other. If you add it to the second reservation, you won't be able to use it until the day that reservation starts.

If you waitlist for BWV for the first night in the same category of room you have for nights 2/3, then you won't have to change rooms and I believe they'll combine it under one reservation number, although I'm not sure of that last part. If they do combine it, you'll have to buy DDP for all 3 nights. If the waitlist comes through but it's a different category or the same category with a different reservation number, then you can still get the DDP for the second reservation only.

I personally don't want to switch rooms - I've done it and it's a hassle IMO to not have a room most of the day. If it's a longer trip and the switch is just after the first night, then I guess it isn't that bad - I just wouldn't unpack much.
