We have booked the last 3 nights of our Dec hols at Animal Kingdom 12 15th. I am reading a lot about the Disney dining plan. Can someone tell me what it is and if I would be eligible? We are mam, dad and 6 yr old John. pirate:

Hiya

Any one staying at a disney hotel can book the dinning plan for the length of your stay at the disney hotel

Basically you are eligble and if you are planning on doing the parks definately get it.

You get 1 sit down meal (starter, main and desert plus soft drink) one counter service meal (such as burger and chips with a drink) and one snack (ie popcorn or a soda) per day allocated. This doesn't mean you have to use them per day, for example you can have 2 CS meals one day if you wanted. Some TS resturants require the use of 2 meal points others are simply the one. You get a list of those which you can use when you check in I believe.

For 3 nights it is probably a good idea. Look at some menus and decide what you would probably order if you were not on the dining plan. If it comes to $28 per day or more, then the dining plan is a good idea since it includes taxes and tips. If you're the type who have juice in the morning, split a sandwich and coke at lunch, and share two appetizers and dessert in the evening, then don't bother with the dining plan.

Also do your homework. We saw families at BOMA who were staring at all the food and saying "there's absolutely nothing that I like here, where is the mac and cheese?" If you're not adventurous, choose your restaurants only after reading the menus and reviews. Dont choose an African buffet if you're not willing to try some new things.

In addition I think that you have to pay rack rate for the room and purchase at least a one day ticket as part of your package.

The dining plan is something that you can add on to your Magic Your Way Package (which is a package including room, park tickets and other additions). At certain times of the years the packages are discounted so it's a better deal (For check-ins 10/1/06-12/23/06 you can get a special discount on a Magic Your Way vacation package. ) At a few rare times the dining plan is included free with any Magic Your Way package.

When it's not free, the dining plan costs $38 per adult and $11 per child ages 3 to 9.

No the price of your room doesn't matter, as long as you're staying at Disney you can purchase the dining plan. The "rack rate" think is only for free dining plan which comes up as a bonus from time to time (instead of discounting their rooms by $40 in the off-off-season like most hotels, Disney keeps the room price the same but offers you free dining).

According to Disney travel and other threads that I have read on the DIS. You cannot get a discounted room and get the DDP. You can get a discounted package with AAA. It doesn't matter whether it's free dining or not the same rules apply. Have I been given the wrong information? :confused3

To have the DDP you have to book a package inc room and at least 1 day Magic Your Way base ticket. There are discounts on packages up to 23rd Dec at the moment, quote code ZBH. You have to book direct with Disney in the US.
