Dining Plan vs. Gift Card

I feel like I've been researching to death about Disney and the one thing I just can't decide on is DDP or no DDP. As I'm trying to price things out for CS meals, I'm assuming the prices are before tax.

If I use DDP for CS meals (looking at allears.net menus) there is no tax, but if I decide to use a gift card or debit card (pre-loaded), do I then have to pay tax for all of my meals?

And how soon before my trip can I add a dining plan if I so choose? I'm already at 32 days with no dining plan selected.

HELLLLLP!!! I'm so indecisive.

you are right about tax. You need to add that in when figuring oop cost.

I've heard that you have to add at least three days prior to your trip... but we've been told and done it at 48 hours.... but that may be a DVC thing.

I am in the same boat (well about not knowing if we should get the plan or a GC) - we aren't going until May 2013 again. I know when we got the QS plan - we didn't eat 1/2 of the desserts. I did like getting 2 snacks each, but now it's only 1. Have you gotten the plan before? Did it work good for you? If not - if you wouldn't have the plan, would you get dessert at every CS spot? Just some things to think about.
