I have rented points for 3 days at AKV. I have the DXDP for these days. If I set up a separate reservation for the day before this reservation - cheaper flights on the day before - can I add the regular DP for just his one night? How would the credits work? I plan on staying at the AKV the entire stay.

You can have the dining plan for the first night. The credits will be separate and will expire on midnight of your check out day which is the day that you check in for your second reservation.

It depends, if you add the first night through your original owner, the reservations will probably be linked, and will be considered on reservation.

If you have a different owner, or make a cash reservation, it will be a separate reservation, but then there is the likely possibility that you will have to move/change rooms.

Chuck,

Is this also true if you are swtiching room types and/or resorts? We are going to WDW for a 14 nights SSR vacation as follows:

1 night: Studio using my points just to crash when we arrive late on Sat
6 nights: 2BR using my points
7 nights: 2BR using an II exchange

The 6 and 7 night segments are made in identical room types (dedicated 2BR)... so I am hoping that I do not have to move... but I understand that it is a possibility. My experience is that the resort tries to prevent moves when possible.

If I get the DDP for the first night... would I be obligated to get it for the remaining 6 nights of my points reservation... I do not beleive they are linked in any way... except they were booked out of my account using my SSR points. I know the II exchange is totally seperate.

Generally we find the DDE to be a much better deal for us since we primarily eat 2 meals/day at TS restaurants. However... I might pick up the 1 night of DDP to go along with the first night... and then do a candlelight processional dinner plan on day 2 using the DDP from the 1st night. I do not think I would want the DDP for the next 6 nights.

If you are switching room types, or resorts, they will always be separate reservations. Only reservations for the same room type at the same resort can be linked.

What if I had one cash night (DVC discount) and it's linked to my points nights? Could the one cash night have the DDP and not the rest?

I don't think so, if the reservations are truly linked, they are one stay for the dining plan.

Yeah, I just called to verify it and he said the only way would be to break the link and risk having to switch rooms which wasn't worth it to me. Oh well, never hurts to try.

Thanks Chuck! ;)

On DDP do you not have to buy for all days (before and after) of a reservation, which is one more than nights?
Adding 1 day before a single night reservation might mean buying 2 more days of dining?

OK, it seems all wording I now see is per night (although you can use your points in preceding and trailing days)
I must of thought the day item as towards the end of stay I review counter and snack points and think "I still have to use how many?" It's a good thing!

No, the DDPs go by the number of nights, not the number of days. For instance, for an 8 night stay, you'd get 8 Table Service, 8 Counter Service and 8 snacks, to be used however you wish over the course of your 9 day stay.
