Dining plan/reservation ???

So we are planning 8 nights in April 2016. When we went in November 2014 I purchased the QS dining plan for just me and my 15 year old grandson who is a very picky eater. Like every night was nuggets and fries. I am thinking of not doing a dining plan in April as I think for us it is not a bargain. Here is my question:

Do I have to have a dining plan with my resort reservation in order to book 180 days out for dining reservations or will the room/park ticket only reservation be enough?

You actually don't need anything at all to book at 180 days out. Everyone can do it, reservation or not, at exactly 180 days.

If you're staying onsite, so just have a room reservation, you can book your whole trip (up to 10 days) at 180 days from your first day there. That's the 180+10 for onsite guests.

No dining plan needed either way.

we are staying at all star movies and I am only planning on one maybe 2 character meals. the rest is all going to be QS and snacks when needed. thank you

As long as your stay is 10 days or less, then you can go ahead and book whatever meals you want at 180 days from the first day of your stay. Enjoy!

I took my then 12 year old niece a few years ago with the regular dining plan. I planned character meals mostly for the experience and the pictures. She was picky too. Mostly ate mac & cheese and chicken tenders. If I had to do it again, I would not have done the dining plan and limited the character dinners to just a couple.
