I made several reservations for our upcoming trip. We have the dining plan and I was charged a $30 reservation fee for one restaurant. I was told it would be charged if we cancelled the reservation late. Does anyone know if I will be refunded this amount when we eat there? I don't want to be charged an extra $30 on top of the dining plan amount. It's already shown up on my statement.

What restaurant was that? From my experience booking dining for guests, most restaurants/shows, etc. are only put on guarantee if you have the dining plan - meaning that if you don't show up, they can charge. I've not heard of a restaurant being totally charged if you are on a plan. Maybe if it's Christmas Day? It still seems odd to me. You should call DRC, IMHO, and ask for a supervisor - if they told you that it was on guarantee, then the card should not have been charged.

I believe you will get a refund. We made our ADR before knowing we would sign up for the dinning plan. We had to prepay for HoopDeeDo and then also make a deposit for CRT. When we checked in, we converted the hoopdeeDo to Dining plan and got a refund on our credit card. When we ate at CRT, we used dining credits (I forgot to mention the deposit) and then checked our credit card later and found a refund for the deposit.

It is a deposit to guarantee that you will show up. If you do not show up or cancel, whatever they told you the time period was, then they will charge your card. They do this with some of the finer restaurants and during Holiday season.

If you eat there and are on the dining plan, they will refund the money to your cc.

I didn't think I'd be charged unless we didn't show up for the reservation. I don't even know which one it's charged for. The statement just says Disney Dining. I have reservations at Cinderella's Royal Table, Boma, 1900 Park Fare, Sci-Fi Dine-In, and Liberty Tree Tavern. We are leaving tomorrow and I think I'll ask at check-in or call Disney Dining from the room.

That is my understanding too. We have quite a few ressies that required that.

I am planning on requesting a list of all our dining ressies when we arrive. Some require 24 hr cancellation notice, some 48. Best option is to just assume 48 hours.

The $30 deposit was at Cinderella's Royal Table. I was told there that they would credit a refund to my card. The lunch was great!

Guess we're not going to book CRT then. I have a problem with being charged upfront for a reservation. If they charge it to my card upfront that means I have to pay it when the bill comes and I refuse to pay for something I won't see for 180 days, especially food.

We made our crt ressies before we had the dining plan added to our package. So we were charged $20. And yes they did charge my card right then. So when we went to eat at CRT we told the waiter we had the dining plan but we had paid a deposit. He told us that when we paid with the dining plan and that went through the system they would issue a refund. And within three days we had a refund for the money on our card. Hopes this helps you out. :goodvibes

I was told that you were only charged if you
1) were not on dining plan
2) blew off reservation
3) CC was just taken to guarantee reservation but nothing was charged to account if you showed up for reservation or cancelled within 48 hours with exception of Cali grill which did take deposit and credited account later.

Am I wrong? Was I misinformed?

I am not sure about all that. I just know that when we ate at crt in november what happened to us. I booked 6 months out and there was a deduction from them taken from my account and then added back when we used the dining plan. I was told up front that they would take it though so I didn't have a problem with it.
