dining plan question

we have just booked with virgin for next may staying at port orleans and have the qsdp included
im not too bothered about table service meals but we did want to do maybe one and have breakfast at tuskers
can i book a table when its 180 days and just pay the difference or will i have to have the dining plan upgraded totally ??
also i have had a look at the restaurants that are included for qsdp and the menus seem fab just wondering if a restaurant is listed as being somewhere you can use your meal voucher can you have anything on the menu or is it like dlrp and you get a set menu aside from the regular ??

Any Table service meals(Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner) you want you will have to pay for seperate, you can't upgrade a QSDP credit for a TS credit. Only other option is to upgrade your whole stay to regular DDP, not sure what Virgin charge for that, Disney for next August are quoting £10.00 per adult, £3.00 per child, per day
Quite a lot if its just 1 or 2 meals you want to upgrade, far better paying for each meal as you go.

Just booked OKW myself for next August direct with Disney, cheaper to book OKW or SSR with regular DDP than POR with QSDP, shame Virgin don't offer same deal.

to be honest the only reason we went with virgin is because my mum is a travel agent so i got a rather nice family and friends discount lol
i might just book a character breakfast seperately then
can i book it in advance direct with disney and pay when im there or do i pay upfront ?? im getting excited and confused !!

You can book online and pay when you get there.

There are certain ones that require payment in full like Cinderella's Royal Table but majority you pay on arrival. It will tell you when you book.

In future have a look at doing DIY rather than a Virgin package, not always cheaper but gives you other options that are not available with a package, like the OKW/SSR deal. Relatives are going with us I priced them up 2 weeks next August Virgin package, just for flights and hotel, tix & DDP £6,500, exactly same flights and hotel DIY £4,500, a £2,000 saving.

Just to confirm that you can do that, this is what we have done with the QSDP the last two years running. Kept the QSDP, booked online at 180 days and pay when we get there. I have paid with cash, Travellers Cheques and this year with my FairFX card. However you do it, it's straightforward. They ask you when you are seated if you are on the Dining Plan and I just say no, since the CS meals are irrelevant.
