Dining plan question

Probably not the best place to ask, but I am confused and curious...

We got a hotel reservation through a friend of ours who is a CM. He was going to get us park passes with his discount as well, but we could not have the dining plan if we did that. So I'm now trying to buy park passes with the dining plan, and I don't have the option. WHY??? It looks like I can only get the DDP if I get hotel reservations with the passes. Any help?

Also, for those of you that have gotten it, how much more money is it on top of the park pass amount. We are a family of four..2 adult/2 children. THANKS!!!

I believe (but may be wrong) that the DDP is connected to your resort reservation not your park passes. Since you have a ressie through a CM the DDP is not available to you because of the discount through the CM on the room.

If you booked a room through CRO instead of the CM you could get DDP.

You have to have a package which includes your room and your park tickets. If your friend can get you a deal on the hotel and tickets, you'll probably end up saving money. The dining plan for this year is around $38 a day per adult and $11 for kids. That's not exact, but within a dollar or so. The dining plan for this year comes with dessert and appetizer. You normally wouldn't eat that. So, I'd say that go with the discount and just pay out of pocket for your meals. You might want to see if you can get the dining discount card, too.

pretty much right. DDP is an addon to a package. a package is a disney resort room + tickets. so you can't buy room only and get the DDP with it or buy tickets and get the DDP. it's package + DDP. that said, you can book a package with any length and type of tickets, so you can book a package with 1 day base tickets regardless of your length of stay and add the DDP to it (DDP length is equal to your resort stay length and non-negotiable).

all that said, it is available separately to those staying at DVC resorts on points (members and guests of members alike).

ETA: in regards to immediately prior response which wasn't there when i wrote this one, purchase of the DDE requires an Annual Pass or to be a state resident.

WOW!!! That is kinda pricey. I would never spend that much money per person per day...I will pass. My kids are only 6 and 3 and I don't even know where I would spend that much money on food. We will probably grab a quick breakfast somewhere, maybe just a small snack or hot dogs for lunch and then maybe a sit down dinner.

Oh, and just in case you need to know...Universal also now has a meal plan. $20 per day per adult and $10 for children. You can also buy a refillable mug for $8.99 and its good for the whole day.

We were at Disney last year and did not do the DDP and we kept up with what we spent to compare to us doing the DDP this year. We are going to be there for 9 days and will be saving about $300 using the plan versus not using it and will be eating much better. Last year, we only did two sit down meals and this year we are doing 9 (all character dining). Just something to keep in mind, the plan, in my opinion, will be saving us money. Will be traveling with wife and 5yo twins (that eat like birds).

If I'm not mistaken, you are limited to a few restaurants on the Universal meal plan. I would check it before I bought it. The ones on the list are not where we usually eat so not a value for us.

Check this out. I think you are operating under a false sense of what things cost at DW.

This will show you menus and prices for all the Disney places to eat.
You can get a resort mug at your resort for $11.99 that is refillable AT THE RESORT only and only for the length of stay of the visit on which you buy it.

Oh also if you don't know already you really need to make Advance dining reservations for any place you want a sit down meal. many people make them 180 days out. They are hard to get and many places don't take walk ups at all.

Yep, I am aware, but we usually eat quick snacks and meals anyway, so the restaurants work for us. Besides, mel's drive in is included and we love it there
