Dining plan problem last week

You give the server you key to the world (for the meals) and a credit card or cash for the extras.

I had heard from the dis board not to have the privilages added to my card and I did it anyway. I had in the past and liked knowing that I didn't have to carry money with me at all during the trip. We were on the DDP for the first time and nothing was added to my room and all the credits each time was taken off correctly. I read every bill I got and made sure all the proper credits were removed at every meal. Now I kept my reciepts because I wanted to know if the DDP was worth it for us to do again next year. I only had 1 of the cards though have the added to room privilege, mine... I think as long as you watch and check you can still have the perks of having things added to your room key. The key is to be aware and check.:woohoo:

In November, We had problem at Wolfgang Puck Express Market Place too. It was our first lunch after checkin.

We had 2 rooms with 8 people total. We order 6 meals to share. The cashier rang up the order properly and everything was in check. Then rang thru the DDP for payment. We had 2 room, so I gave her 2 cards. She then took 6 CS from each room taking off 12 credits total. We didn't figure this out until the next day when we noticed we had 6 credits missing. Hotel did ask for the receipt to fix the mistake. Lucky we had them. Even if we did not have them I wonder how can 8 people eat 12 CS meals in one sitting?

Many of the restaurants not run by Disney have a separate system to ring up the payment for DDP. Often the cash receipt is correct; but you must check a separate receipt they give you for the DDP.

Absolutely better safe than sorry. Carrying an extra 2 millimeters is a small price to pay for avoiding the silliness we experienced our first day.

Good advice. When we were on our honeymoon, someone was at the front desk with over 1000.00 in charges that were not his. He was very angry and more than happy to let everyone around him know what the story was. The CM were working to resolve the problem. But after speaking with him we saved every receipt and stop using the room key to charge purchases. He also mentioned to me that kids that have charging privileges can use the room key in the arcade. He requested that they not have them and the kids found out that they could use the room key to play games and had a ball.:scared1:

We had an issue with this the first night we were there. We ate at cosmic Rays and were charged 3 CS cerdits. So when we got back to the resort, I asked them to correct it. The CM gave us a bit of hard time about it, saying, are we sure we didn`t order 3 meals, because as DS2 wasn`t on the plan? I explained we knew that and that he shared with us, we only bought 2 meal, so she fixed. After that we also keep a close eye on our reciepts. It happened again at hollywood and vine later in the week, but we told the server and he fixed it. I did notice that both times it happened when the restaurant was EXTREMELY busy.

Yep, my 2 teenage nephews discovered that little arcade perk our last day there. They charged like $40 for the cards that the arcade gives you, and of course those arcade cards are non-refundable.

We had lots of problems with this in October. At F&W at Epcot several times the booth person charged our room instead of using the snack credits. The biggest problem was at Crystal palace our card was charged instead of TS. So I thought I had miscalulated the credits and we squeezed in an extra TS- we didn't want to not use these up. At check out I was surprised to find a bunch of snack credits charged and the Crystal place charge. We were staying at BCV's. Many tears later the snacks were exchanged for snacks that I luckly had not used. Unfortunatly they could do nothing about the Crystal palace charge since we had no TS credits left-only counter service. Luckly I had written in some emergency money in the budget.

Someone on these boards had a great solution to this problem. It will work if you have children. Put down a credit card and use the childs world key for all DDP purchases and use the adult world key for any credit card charges. Since there is not charging option on the kids key cards there is no way that this mistake will happen. I will either do this or not put a credit card down for charges and just bring my credit card with me everyday. I must say this was not a pleasant way to end our trip.

So..let me get this straight. You use the kids card..with no charging priviliges..you present that when you eat..? What if you aren't all together when you eat? Say like me..your kids are older..and we might all be different places and want to eat something. All the cards have the dining on them right?...Just the adult cards can be made to also have charging to the room on them? So in our case..I'd still have to be careful if my husband and I were out and we ate..and the kids were elsewhere and they ate..because a meal of ours could still be charged to the room instead. Let me ask you this..when you get your receipt..does it tell you anywhere on it whether you used a dining credit or whether it was charged to your room? Is it that you think by looking at your receipt that it was part of the plan..and then you check out and find out otherwise? Honestly I only have a room only reservtion for May..and figured I have time to decide whether to make it a package with the dining. At least that's what they told me. After reading some of these problems..I just assume pay for my meals out of pocket than have to be so concerned about the mix ups.
Another question:..the cards at the game room. You can purchase a video game card instead of using actual money?..Can you just pay for it..or does it have to be billed to the room? I'd like my son to save some of his own money for the video game playing he no likely will be doing. Also..can the cards be used at any arcade in Disney or just at the particular resort you purchased it from?

While that's a good idea, you can have any key be a "non-charge" key. And kids cards CAN have charging privileges, I'm pretty sure?

Oh...then if I kept kids cards as non charging and one of the cards belonging to my husband or myself as non charging then chances are we could use those for dining..and not have to worry about a meal being charged to the room instead of coming off the dining credits. But again..I'm confused..doesn't it indicate on your receipt that it was a dining plan meal..or a charge to the room?..Does this not appear on the receipt anywhere. Are you just to assume it takes the credits and then you find out when you check out about these problems? Is there a way to avoid that happening right at the point of dining?

They give you a cash receipt (usually zeroed out, if I remember correctly) and another receipt that notes the number of credits left-- I think?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggg!!!!! So confusing!!! LOL!!!

I always refuse to have the charging option put on ANY of our cards and I ALWAYS carry cash. I find I ALWAYS spend more if I don't see the green leaving my hand. It hurts a little more to see it leave my actual pocket LOL!!!

So if you look at this receipt when it is returned....You should be able to determined whether they used dining plan credits..or charged it to your room? Because wouldn't it indicate a lesser amount of credits left than before your meal?

You can NOT charge to the room from a kid’s key card.
If the card states “not valid for charging", adult or child, you can only use it for the DDP.

Unless policy has changed in the past two years, if you have it set up for charging privileges at check in, yes, you can. When my son was 8 I was given the choice of allowing charging or not.

Yes, IF you give them charging Privileges the anyone can use the room key to charge. But, IF the Card States "NOT VALID FOR CHARGING" you can only use the card to enter your room or the parks (if you have entrances on the card) and for DDP if you have it.

Previously, folks would refer to the room keys as either ADULT or CHILD (because those words were printed on the card). That's changed, and now any room key can either be valid for charging or "Not valid for charging." We had all of our room keys set up that way (by the end of our trip) and we had no children with us.
