We have APs and are also DVC members so we do get a discount.
No discounts on the dining plan. You just won't have to buy any tickets. (And if you're in peak time, you don't have to pay the upcharge on the basic DDP if you're staying at DVC on points, maybe that sort of counts as a "discount")
I would just pay for 2 adult DDPs for our length of stay. But now I am not so sure?? Am I correct in this?
You can do this IF you register your child as 10 years old. If you register him as 8, they'll give him a child's plan.
Most of the previous posters are talking about upgrading children on package reservations, where you also have to buy them adult tickets. On a DVC reservation you don't have to buy any tickets. All you have to do is register the child as 10 years old.
Also, this talk of buying 1 adult and 1 kid DDP and then paying OOP for some meals is also confusing - can some explain why that would be beneficial?
It might be beneficial for some. Depends on the number of meals booked, whether or not they're buffets or family style (a kid eating lots of buffet or family style is better off on the kids' plan, so a party might choose to get the kids plan and then have the kid order some adult meals OOP at non-buffet restaurants) and how the party wants to split the credits.
Others are talking about "adult" kids who prefer kids meals. While you can't register a kid 10 or over as a child, you can buy them the adult dining plan, and rather than use the adult credits for kids meals (not the best value) you can buy the child kid's meals OOP and any adult in the party can use the leftover adult credits, so the group could get more meals out of their plan if they buy kids' meals OOP for the kid who wants them, then use the leftover adult credits for the rest of the party.
we are going during F&W so I am sure we will be eating at Epcot F&W tables for at least a couple of days - and I dont imagine you can use DDP for that
I think you mean kiosks, not tables. There aren't any food & wine tables. You can use snack credits for the kiosks, but with snack credits it's irrelevant whether it's an adult or child account.
I was not aware snack credits could be used for the F&W kiosks so that is really good to know - we may blow them all in 1 or 2 days! In the past, I have not found the snack credits to be that useful to us, so this is really good news! As for the other options, I will think more on what may work best for us.
