We are a family of 6 and will be eating off the DxDP. My question is the gratuity. From the DxDP brochure for 2009 "...An automatic 18% gratuity charge will be added to your bill for parties of 6 or more."
Regardless of the fact that this takes away from my wife and I deciding whether the service warrants a good or bad tip, how is the actual gratuity calculated? Do we leave cash on the table? Is our room billed? What if we don't want to pay 18%?
Or am I just being way too picky? :confused3

I have never used the DDp before but I am going to assume it will work the same as other restaurants. They will simply add it to your bill. Now if you want you can always leave more. I think they do this to keep severs from receiving a very small tip when waiting on larger parties. The only way around this if you really didn't want to do it would be to sit at 2 different tables.

The tip amount is listet on the bottom of your check. You can then choose to either have it added to your room bill or pay with cash or cc. If you insist on having recieved bad service and absoloutly do not want to pay the 18% you can request to speak to the manager. Your only other option to get around the 18% would be to sit at seperate tables and pay seperately, I believe.

We were just there last month and ran into this as well since we were also a party of 6. There were a few times when it was just 5 of us...then there was a "suggested tip amount" listed at the bottom of the bill. Either 18 or 20%. But when there were 6 of us they automatically included 18% on to the total bill. One way around this was we did not have charging privileges on our KTTW card. So technically, when we charged the tip amount on our credit card, we could have not given the 18%. This never crossed my mind though...the service was always excellent. I even left extra at TEB for our fav. server, Gary. Hope that helps? :goodvibes

And yes, a party of 6 or more must pay the 18% gratuity unless they contact a manager and have the tip reduced for service issues. The manager is not likely to reduce the tip amount for anything other than service issues.
