I am trying to figure out if it is worth it for me as a single person to get the dining plan when I next go to WDW in 2009. Would one person using this option save any money?
Thanks

We did the DxDP this past July and plan to do it again in January. With others, this definitely (for us anyway) worth the money. We eat a lot of TS meals, many of which are 2 TS credits. Going by myself, however, I don't think it would be worth it as I would be much more likely to only do one or two TS meals and just grab CS meals or snacks when I felt like it. It just depends on how and what you eat. (Although I might be likely to do the new counter service dining plan) Reviewing the menus on sites like allears.net can also make it easier to know if it is worth it.

If you are planning on at least one TS for each night of your stay, the DDP could be worth it. Usually, the TS meal comes close to covering the complete cost of the plan.

As little1kry suggested, just review the menus and that should help you decide what plan, if any, would work best for you.

I'm going solo as well, and getting the DDP (and actually considering the DxDP!) My rationale for the basic one is along the lines of what another DISer posted...if you plan on TS, it's probably worth it. I'm considering the DxDP. If I got that it would be to do many of the Signature meals at the parks and resorts.

ON a persoanl level, it will encourage me to do things alone that I might otherwise do (TS being that "thing" as eating alone is always the most uncomfortable part for me, but I'm getting more comfortable at it!). I love to eat, and it sounds like some of the TS is pretty cool, so I don't want to miss out on what for me will probably be one of the highlights of the trip. Therefore, the DDP will give me more enjoyment that I may otherwise miss!

Good luck with your decision!

After pricing all the plans for my family, I determined the DDP no longer holds any great value. It may have years ago (I researched the prices) when it was less expensive but now you may as well pay OOP. However, the DxDP provides a great value if you plan on doing TS three times a day or at least one regular TS and one signature TS. If you'd rather wing it, and stick more to CS, then do everything OOP. The DPs were instituted to keep guests from leaving the parks at meal times. If you have no intention of leaving, don't let the DP restrictions or the "should I order this to maximize my investment?" headache hinder your choices. Either way, make ADRs as soon as you can. Every day is 180+10 for tens of thousands of incoming Disney guests.

As far as sitting by yourself at a TS and being uncomfortable? I never quite understood that. Go for it. Enjoy your solitude. And when you do, look around at all the other tables filled with families of 2, 8, 14, restless children, fighting in-laws, and know that they all wish they could be like you: by themselves, able to come and go like the wind, and order whatever, whenever. ;)

Have a great vacation!
