Hi,

I'm trying to decide if it is worth it for our group (5 adults + 1 child) to purchase the dining plan for one night.

We will be arriving after lunch on Saturday and staying 1 night at Tree House Villas before heading on the Disney Wonder .

Could I have my table service meal for dinner the night I arrive and use a counter service for breakfast the next morning?

Do you experts think it is worth it?

Any advice appreciated!!!

Thank you.

Yes, you can add any of the dining plans for a single night's stay, as long as you're doing it as part of a ticket package, or you are an AP holder or a DVC member staying on points.

If you're going to use the credits, then by all means get the plan. You should fare quite well vs. OOP with a TS dinner and a CS breakfast. Don't forget you get a snack, too!

Are you planning to go to a park? I think you have to have at least a one day ticket.

If you are, then I would just do a little math and see what the cheapest route would be. :)

Yeah, DDP is only good with a package, so if OP is buying a 1-day ticket already, then they could add the DDP. The exception would be if they are AP holders, then they can add DDP to the room without buying tickets.

To OP, assuming you are eligible, whether getting DDP for 1-day is worth it is mostly dependent on what TS restaurant you want to eat at for dinner. you CAN indeed use your DDP credits the night you check in, so your plan is valid.

Thank you for the quick replies.

Now i'm not so sure I am eligible to add the dining plan because

1) We are not doing the parks
2) I am a DVC member but not staying on points

Hmmm...I am going to call member services and see if they let me add it to my ressie. I know that in the past, I had added it to my ressie but I was staying on points that time.

Oh well, I'll let you know how I make out.

Thanks again.

Remember too that if you are going to do the parks some other time, the ticket portion of a package won't expire until 14 days after they are first used. So, it's a bit more cost up-front, but you could buy tickets for later use in order to make it a package.

Really only makes sense if you're going back soon enough that buying tickets in advance isn't a major budget hassle...

Because I know that everyone is dying to know:goodvibes.

Just got off the phone with DVC member services and was able to add the dining plan for my one night. I specifically enquired about having to get a package and was told that because it is a DVC property the package thing does not apply.

She went ahead and added it and said if I changed my mind to make sure to call before we arrived.

So, we'll see what happens. Wouldn't be the first time I was told one thing and another happened. Either way, its all good :).

Thanks again.

Thanks for pointing that out. Learn something new everyday around these boards.

Thanks everyone.

If you are not staying on points, according to current known policy you shouldn't be able to add the dining plan without buying a room/tickets package reservation - unless you are also an annual passholder. Annual passholders may purchase a room/dining package, no tickets.

Have never heard that members may add the plan to a cash reservation at a DVC property. I wasn't aware that Member Services even handles a cash reservation at a DVC property. Is this an exchange, or a change in policy?

Yes DVC members can get a special DVC cash reservation at resorts. Usually it's on 25% off and has to be booked through member services. I also didn't know we could add the DDP to DVC cash reservations, but since they recently changed their rules and now exchanges can also add the DDP to their DVC reservations, maybe that's when DVC cash reservations also changed. Thanks for update OP.

BTW, yes we add the DDP to one our night stays all of the time whether they are DVC or AP. It's great to add one night of the Delux DDP and use the credits over 2 days. Then we take the mug with us to our next DVC location. It's a nice perk that DVC members and AP holders don't have to add the ticket option in order to add the DDP. It's a double-nice perk for us.
