I am considering DP but wonder what the desserts are with lunch and dinner? I cant imagine having dessert 2X per day plus snack(which will most certainly be mickey cookies and cream bars:woohoo:) I think I read you must order the dessert right then with meal? no allowing for a credit to enjoy it later?
Also the Non alcoholic drink with meals- Is there bottled water or is it soda and juice? We arent soda drinkers and with a meal I would have water or order an alcoholic drink. I am still deciding if DP is right for us.
We have 2 kids but one will be under 3 so not on DP.

You are correct in assuming that you must get the dessert at the time of the meal. The only exception is at POP Century resort. There they have a sundae bar and you can have the cashier mark your receipt to return within 90 mins for one as your dessert.

Most CS places do offer a healthier alternative for dessert, such as fruit slices or yogurt or even a non sugar treat.

For the drink, yes you can get bottled water as your drink. You don't have to get soda.
Some TS places offer a shake or smoothie (but not all only a couple places).
The non alcohol specialty drinks won't be covered on the DDP.

As for the snacks, take a look at the snack thread. There are plenty of choices of NON sweet snacks or healthy snacks that you can get, leaving the sweets for your dessert choices.

With anything it will be up to you to decide if the plan is right for you and your family.

We were also allowed to do this at ASMo. But they never gave us a time limit. In fact, we went back almost 5 hrs later and had no problems at all.

This is our first year with the DDP, but we were not sure what the desert choices are?

Do you choose from the dessert menu or are they pre-selected?

QS places usually have 2 or 3 desserts to choose from. These are mainly prepackaged brownies, cakes, pudding type things, and they are pretty much the same throughout the parks.

TS you can choose any dessert on the menu. If it is a dessert for two, you normally need two adults to order it.

OP the dessert/drink is what drives the DDP. We also drink water (which you can get for free at ANY QS or TS place) and all four of us getting dessert 2x a day is just too much. If you don't plan to use those entitlements at the majority of your meals, you will lose money.

For drinks you can also get milk (you as an adult can also order the 1% Mickey Milk at all QSRs), juice, tea, hot chocolate, and coffee. We also aren't a soda drinking family, but we've never had a problem.

As for desserts, they are nice at TS, and broadly not so much so at QSRs. A good strategy is to use your QSR desert for breakfast the next day. This is best done at the bakeries (especially Main Street Bakery, Boulangerie Patisserie, and Kringli Bakeri Og Kafe) or even the food courts (I like the Pop food court and LOVE their chocolate croissants). One of our favorite Pop dessert strategies is to get a brownie sundae (after getting our receipt stamped) and split it with DH, and DD (6), then get two chocolate croissants to split between the 3 of us with breakfast in our room. We'll have to see how this works on this trip with DS (22 months).

We also tend to bring a few pre-packaged brownies home with us. They freeze reasonably well.

Having two desserts a day, plus a snack, is one of the reasons we put on weight during our recent trip. Would have much preferred a salad, soup, light appetizer, etc rather than so many desserts. We got fruit here and there, and even took the fruit back to the room to pop in the fridge for next mornings breakfast!!

Many places allowed us to come back after our meal for dessert and many also allowed an extra bottled water as our dessert instead of a brownie or cookie. We would just ask and most CS said it was fine. Also, we found the CS selection of desserts pretty large and varied and found many options.
