Dining plan and TIW question

If you have a dining plan but also have TIW, can you use both?

While I know that the dining plan covers the cost of the meal, I was wondering if TIW could be used to cover the tip (being they charge 18% gratuity if you use it).

Wasn't sure how that worked exactly. Didn't want to not factor in tips if I couldn't use it.

I don't understand. Using TiW won't cover the tip, but it will ensure your are charged the 18% automatically. So even if you use the card to cover any OOP extras, your tip will be set automatically. If you don't use it, you can decide how much you want to tip.

I didn't know if you could use the two together. I just didn't want to use them both at the parks and find out later that the waiter/waitress didn't receive their tip. In the same sense, I wouldn't want to leave a tip, if they were going to get the 18% via TIW (unless the service was worth it and sometimes a waiter/waitress outshines a 20% tip)

TIW doesn't pay for anything. It's like a discount shopping card you might use at the grocery store. You will get your bill after your meal and you can add a tip as you wish. If you use the TIW card to get a discount on apps, adult beverages, etc. then your bill will show an added 18% tip.

You can use Dining Plan and TiW together for a meal, but TiW would require a purchase to be used. And the TiW gratuity would apply only to items ordered with TiW. For example, you ordered appetizer, beer, entree, dessert, soda. TiW covers the first 2 items and DP covers the last 3 items. You would receive 2 separate checks (TiW for appetizer, beer, tip and tax) (DP for entree, dessert, non-alcoholic drink, tip and tax) for this meal. DP pays for the tax on the DP items. You don't owe that.

You couldn't use TiW to cover tip if you didn't order anything other than what the DP paid for. If you wanted to charge a DP meal tip, you could use your room charging (if you had set up charging privileges at a Disney resort). I've read of ppl using gift cards to pay for tip. Or cash. TiW bills do include automatic tip, however the tip is calculated at the food or beverage's full price, not the TiW discounted price.

Here's a sample TiW meal calculation: http://www.disboards.com/threads/tables-in-wonderland.2919899/page-2#post-44779063

The TiW wouldn't discount the amount charged to the dining plan, but it would discount any additional items.
