Does anyone know when I will be able to add the dining plan to my January 2010 reservation?

The pricing for 2010 has not been finalized yet. More than likely, though, if they follow the traditional pattern of raising park tickets around the first weekend of August, the prices for 2010 will most likely be set by then. If you were look at several of the various specials they are running right now, (you can basically see them all in one place on Mousesavers.com), you'd see that most of the special pricing discounts for both general public & AP holders are only good through the beginning of August...which while not guaranteed, seems to be indication that they will keep the August price-changing precedent going for another year. That's my guess anyway - early August.

They'll post the 2010 plan whne they decide how to word the plan changes. I think they'll tell us, due to popular request, the appetizer will be added back to the plan, but to keep costs affordable to consumers in this economy, and address concerns of "too much food", the plan will be sans entree. :lmao:

I would be happy keeping it as is and giving DVC members a discount on the DDP.

From what I understand you add DDP prior to arriving and pay for it when you check in.

I do wonder why they do not try harder to "upsell" us the DDP to increase total vacation spending (as they used to do, pre DVC, when we booked through CRO) We would call back to adjust our room-only, and they'd offer us a discounted (Disney Visa?) DDP on top of our room...

Yes, that would be a fabulous perk for DVC!! We will likely always buy either the DDP or DxDDP, but to get even a small discount would really make me feel like Disney is showing its appreciation for our commitment to vacation there for the next 50 years. Here's hoping...

Thanks everyone- I figured that they would probably be tweaking the plan or increasing the prices, etc. I just didnt know when they typically change these things.

I have another question...I know that you have to add the dinning plan 48 hours prior to check in, but can I pay for it before I check in? For instance, once prices come out can I add it to my reservation and pay right then?

The dining plan can only be paid for at check-in.

If you really want to pay for it ahead of time, buy some disney dollars on a gift card instead, that way you will have it when you get there. I believe you can buy any increment over $25 right on the Disney store site, and there is no cost for shipping on gift cards.

Member Services is not set up to take payment for the dining plan, so it must be paid at check-in.

Package components for the new year are usually released in August. That's when you'll see the 2010 dining plans.

Just out of curiosity, when paying for the dining plan, can that be charged to my room charge, or do I need to provide a credit card or another form of payment? First timer here... :)

You'll need to pay for it before you leave the check-in counter, so a credit card or another form of payment will be expected at that time, not charged to the room. You can use Disney Gift cards, credit cards or cash to pay for it (not sure about checks, I've never tried nor asked about it - but someone else will know I'm certain).
