Anyone had to do this? Just wondering if the restraunts allow you to purchase say at the buffet the childrens price. How have others handled this.

Just got from the world w/ my Mom who is 10 months post op. and while we were on the free dining plan she had 4 table services that were out of pocket. At every one they accepted the card she got from her doctor. I think she used it at Trails End Buffet, 50's Prime Time Cafe, Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fair. Hope this is helpful.

I went last summer, ate everywhere. They were wonderful in all the restaurants. I called ahead and also requested sugar free desserts as sugar makes me sick. I was charged children's price for all the buffets. The only place I had a small issue with was Coral Reef. I had called ahead and was told I could substitute a sugar free dessert for the one on the diver's special lunch, even though it says no substitutions. They brought me the dessert I asked for, plus the one that came with the meal, and charged me for it. It was inedible anyway so I sent it back and they took it off the bill. I think it was just a misscommunication between whoever I had talked to and the server not understanding. No big deal. If you cannot tolerate sugar I would not recommend Boma as a lot of their food tasted sweet to me. Most of it I was afraid to eat, but they did have a beautiful roast beef. All of the restaurants were familiar with my card. It saved us a ton of money on the buffets and character meals. Many places the chef came out and talked to me as I had called ahead and mentioned my sugar allergy - you would be surprized at how many foods you would not really think about having sugar in them are loaded with it, like some salad dressings, sauces etc. I was really impressed at how great Disney treated me. When you make your ADRs they will give you a number you can call the chef at each restaurant directly if you want to. Every one called me back! Have fun!

Thank you for the responses. I am only 4 days post op so not sure what I am sensitive to yet lol. We will be going the beginning of Dec. so I will have a little bit of time. I hope I am not to sensitive to sugar, you mentioned Boma and I just love there butternut squash soup, which I am sure has lots of sugar as sweet as it is.

Maggie if you are just four days out you will not be eating much at a time by December! They will also allow you to share with a family member, I did with my granddaughter quite a few times when we ate in menu restaurants. You might want to bring along some small snacks like string cheese, nuts and protein bars. I am over four years out so if I can be of any help let me know. I would try to stay away from sugar anyway as you don't want to eat it knowingly. If you are like me that was how I got where I was before surgery! Good l.uck!

My sister ordered off the children's menus quite a bit at both TS & CS restaurants. That seemed to work fine for her. We didn't eat at any buffets though, specifically because it seemed like such a waste of food. That was in March, at 6 months post-op. She's now a year out and has lost 120 lbs! :cheer2:
