Hi! I'm a new member and have a question. I am going down to Disney in November (yes...New Jersey week) and was told by one person that I HAVE to have lunch one time at, I believe it was Bomba, at the Animal Kingdom Lodge because it was a great restaurant and I had to see this hotel. Then, I was told by another person I should have lunch at the Whispering Canyon Cafe in the Fort Wilderness Lodge for the same reasons. Anyone that's been to both...help please??? Thanks so much.

You will not be able to have lunch at Boma in AKL, since they are only open at breakfast and dinner. They are a buffet style restaurant, with the food items available on different "pods" in the middle of the restaurant. The food is really good - and fairly African in spices. Lots of curries, etc, on the dinner menu.

You can go to lunch at the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. They have a regular menu, with a skillet type lunch available that offers you an all-you-can-eat selection of their BBQ items.

Both restaurants are excellent - and the Whispering Canyon has lots of fun antics all day long - if you can fit both into your trip schedule, you won't be sorry!

whispering canyon cafe is at wilderness lodge. it does serve all meals. i would suggest breakfast as we think that is the best meal served there. as for as boma at AKL, they serve lunch and dinner, no lunch. we prefer jiko at AKL over boma. either resort is fabulous and a treat to visit. AKL is a little more difficult to get to than WL but it is do-able. have you checked out the menus at www.allearsnet.net that would be a good start in making a decision. good luck!

Hi and welcome to the DIS Boards.

First, where are you staying during your trip? Second you cannot have lunch at Boma at the AKL because Boma does not serve lunch. It does a breakfast and dinner buffet.

Second the Whispering Canyon Cafe is located at the Wilderness Lodge. There is a seperate resort called Fort Wilderness.

Check out the rest of this site for some great general information about Walt Disney World and welcome to the boards.

we went to boma for dinner and it was great. at 5pm they feed the animals and you can walk around the hotel and the animals are really close. my kids loved that. the hotel itself is really beautiful as well.

We went to both restaurants on our last trip. I love them both! Boma has delicious food if you are a bit adventurous. Actually, my son ate a ton at their children's pods which are just normal American food. My DH and I had the best time sampling everything and then eating more of our favorites.

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge on our honeymoon so we ate at Whispering Canyon a lot for breakfast. It is a lot of fun, and so far, my favorite resort! On our last trip we had to take the kids there to show them where we stayed and ate before them.

If you don't have a car, I would suggest going to Boma after an Animal Kingdom day. Otherwise, it is a bit out of the way. You can take a boat from Magic Kingdom to Wilderness Lodge. Have fun! So many good places to eat!

They're both excellent restaurants. We've eaten at both several times.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I decided we'll eat lunch one day at Whispering Canyons Cafe and then do dinner one night at Boma. You all made them both sound great, I can't decide so...there ya go! We're staying at the Polynesian but we will have a car for the week because we're spending half the week at Universal so getting around shouldn't be a problem.

They are both worth a visit. Since you are at the Polynesian-be sure to visit the Kona Cafe too, at least for dessert.

Whispering canyon is great for breakfast. We were never impressed with lunch or dinner, but breakfast there is wonderful.

We also love breakfast at Boma, or dinner at Boma..both are great.

Allow yourself extra time to check out both resorts if you go. Also, these are two very, very popular places to eat...make a priority seating..otherwise you will have a long wait time for either meal..if you can get in at all.

Enjoy!

dinner. Incredible food, high quality, interesting flavors and the great atmosphere of the AKL! Would make for a great late afternoon and evening trip!
