We are going on Disney Dream our first 3 day cruise this May, and I am worried about how loud the dining rooms are.
Is there any other dining options besides Remy's and Palos.

You can get room service in your room (and if you have a verandah eat out there-nice!) or up on deck at Flo's (pizza/panninis/burgers/nuggets/fries). DH and I will be on a 3 day this May and we plan of eating up on deck twice and in Palo once. Not up for MDRs this trip.

you can dine at Cabanas in the evening. it is a sit down dinner, no time slot required. The menu is a selection based off the main dining rooms. You will be able to dine in the Enchanted garden or the royal palace for breakfast or lunch ifyou still want to see the venues. There will be less people in those locations during those times.

Can as well do Cabana's (not buffet but sit down) as alternative. IMHO the dining rooms on the Dream are not that noisy and think the breakfast buffet in Cabana's to be the loudest of place/meal/time.

The noise level of the main dining rooms and on Deck is equivalent to eating in a Disney Park large dining facility (fairly noisy). Palo, Remy's and Cabanas(for dinner) are much quieter, more like a high end restaurant. Palo and Remy's are quiet since they are adult venues while Cabanas has a lower number if guests in the evening than the main dining rooms.

We often get food on the pool deck and take it over to the adult only area where it is calmer and quieter.

Just a note here to one of the responses above. Cabanas in the evening, sit down table service, will only be open the middle night of your cruise.

I agree with PP about Cabana's at breakfast! It was the loudest and most crowded experience of our cruise. I didn't find any of the MDRs to be noisy on our Dream cruise. At least we never had a problem carrying on our conversation!

We(DH & me)were wondering is it a buffet dining only on pirate night can you skip it and still dine at the Cabanas?.
We are Middle to Senior age and something quieter.

We've found which seating you have makes a difference. Main always has more kids and is most popular so is noticeably noisier. Late seating is quieter and less chaotic...

Pirate night dinner is the same as all the others, no buffet just a special menu. I'm not sure they are still doing them, but if they do have a Pirate Night buffet it is in Cabanas after the fireworks, so around 11 or so. It's not in the place of your dinner.

This makes sense! I've read a lot on here about the MDR being overly noisy, and honestly it's never bothered us. But we always do late seating, so maybe that is why. In our experience I'd equate the noise level to a meal at your local Applebees - not so loud you can't carry on a conversation, but certainly not quiet and romantic.

OP, unless someone in your party has sensory issues, or some other reason where noise could be a problem, I'd recommend giving the MDR a chance, at least once. They really are a great part of the DCL cruise experience in my opinion.

I'd also like to point out that WHERE your table is in the MDR matters a lot too, noise-wise. In one MDR we were off to the side of the MDR and it was much quieter than the tables in the middle. Also, some MDR's have smaller rooms off to the side. Some people don't like them because they are "out of the action" but they are quieter. I don't know if you can request tables that are on the in these quieter parts of the ship, but you may be able to, either ahead of time, or when you first get on the ship.

Good Luck!

We were in the "back room" (only had 2 tables) in the Royal Palace, and initially thought "WTH"? But, it was MUCH quieter than the main area. Didn't complain because the food was fantastic, and the Room was very elegant...

If you do decide to try to MDR you can always request a table in the corner, up against the window, etc. Not a guarantee it will be granted but they will be less noisy. IMO, the "noise" is part of the fun in the MDR for me. The hustle and bustle, the personality of the CMs with the families and kids, the laughs, the jokes, etc and as you mentioned...for a more intimate setting, Palo and Remy are available. Rest assured, your server at Remy won't do any magic tricks with a spoon and your napkin,

I have found the noise on the Dream class too much for me. When sitting at a 4 top it is difficult to impossible to converse with DW and DD sitting across from me some nights. It really depended though on where our table ended up at each venue, because they are never in the same general area room to room. We have been against a wall in one, to only be near the walking path in another. I am not sure how they figure out the numbers in the dining rooms.

One thing that you could ask is if you could order your food and get it to go? I know they did this for my wife when she felt ill once as we were pulling out of port, but no clue if they would do this for you for a full family every night.

I have tendinitis. So if it gets loud in the restaurant I have trouble hearing people right in front of me and will miss most of what's said if there's loud noise behind me.
We have late dining booked, so fingers crossed all will go well.
Thank you all .
I'll ask if they have a table in a quieter section .

I am 100% deaf in one ear and I was able to communicate with my wife, servers, daughter, etc without issue during first seatings on every cruise. If seated at a large table it does become difficult to hear conversations at the other end but I wouldn't stress about it. You won't be dining in a night club.

We found the MDRs on the Dream & Fantasy much, much noisier than the classic ships (they are much larger).

We just got off a back to back on the Magic out of Miami. We are two adults 70+ and had early dining. I commented to our table of 8 adults that we were always seated on the perimeter of the dining room and it was not loud at all.
We are veteran cruisers and have noticed that we are always put at outside perimeter tables with less noise levels.
Works for us since we prefer early dining even on the larger ships.
