Any ideas on when we might see DINGS for August and September?

I got my ressie for free dining (staying Aug 25-Sept 1) now I just need a flight. DH wants to drive and I don't. So we came to an agreement. I can't spend any more than $500 for flights (4 people)---that only leaves me waiting for a DING.

HI ~ I'm curious about July DINGS too. S

I just booked from Buff to Mco for the internet fare and it came to $620 for 4 of us...not quite $500 but not bad. I booked one way fares each way hoping to get a ding later. We are going Aug 27- Sept 3 and it looks like flights are filling up for the last week of Aug so you might not want to wait too long.

They had dates for July on May 15. Could we get August on June 15?

I need Aug 25 returning Sept 1, 2 or 3. Any suggestions?

I just booked Aug 25-Sept 1 with Southwest at $69 each way. (Direct Flights)

I think they may have released more seats at that price because they weren't available when i looked yesterday.

Thanks,

I just saw the $69 flights. Only problem is it goes over the $500 that I promised to stick to. Maybe I can convince DH that $600 is a more realistic amount, and then when I go over the $600 it won't be so bad.:rotfl2:

If it were up to me I would book right now at any price. I hate car trips.

remind your dh of the GAS prices!

I'm looking at the exact same dates. I checked them last night and they appeared to be sold out of the Internet special prices at $168. And today they have $69 each way. It's costing $311 for 4 of us to get to Orlando - now I have to wait for the returns to open up again - I must have missed the window on those. The direct returns are sold out at the $69 price. Were they available earlier? I'm hoping for the last direct flight of the day.:surfweb:

I have thought of that. I just (casually) asked him how much extra gas the van will use when you run the air conditioner. He seems to think that it will only cost $500 to drive round trip. I do not agree. That is how we came to an agreement about flying. We can only fly if the tickets cost no more than his $500 figure. I would just go ahead and book the SW $69 but the dates don't line up for me. I want to travel Sat Aug 25-Sun Sept 2 or Sun Aug 26-Mon Sept 3. Flying on a Sunday is not $69. Right now it's $168.

What am I gonna do?:confused3

Ok so here's my logic. He is prepared to spend around $500 to drive (hotel stays along the way, gas, food etc.) ... in his mind the $500 is already spent ...all he has to agree to is $100 for direct flights each way plus less wear-and-tear on the car and the family.
(Try to bring it up on a long car-ride with noisy kids in the back - that should move help convince him!!:rotfl2: )

mickeywho?---I'm also in Oakville.
Excellent theory. Only problem is he works in the auto industry so the wear and tear thing is his everyday life---so that's out. The kids are 8 and 17 and have never been noisey a day in their lives.

More than likely I'll be booking tickets and paying ???? He'll only know what I tell him, since I'm the minister of finance in this house. He doesn't even have a debt card.

Anyone think I should book the Sept 3 return and pray for a DING or something for my southbound flight. Do I dare?

The only return N/S flight available was the 7:35 a.m. I grabbed it and a couple of hours later it was showing sold out again. Keeping checking they may open up more flights. I'm hoping to change my 7:35 a.m. for something later, othewise ME will be bringing us to the airport at 4:30 a.m.

The flights going down seem to be wide open.

I just booked our flights on SW Aug4-8 4 x 629. and then went to book my other party of 5 and sold out had to bite the bullet and pay 1291 for 5 of them :scared1: and eat the difference.........but it is still cheaper then flying out of Toronto.......

I'm prepared to wait it out. At least I know we have our flights down - so if we're stuck at WDW...

I am married to a driver at heart. He loves long road trips and I also hate them.

Sounds crazy but in the past, we have let him drive on his own and I have flown down to meet him there. I did take the kids on the plane with me because they were too little to go with him alone. It would have made the grumpy in him come out.

But if the kids are good, they could drive down with him and you could fly! Have him meet you at the airport like we did. Then he drops you off and heads home on your last day.

I look at it this way. I order to spend a week in Disney, you need two days travel on either end (one night hotel stay each way). We are in Windsor so the drive time is about 23 hours. The extra vacation days I would use are not worth any savings by driving.

So you might spend $650 to fly but you will be in Florida within HOURS of leaving home. What is his time worth to him?

Good luck. :cheer2:

It all makes perfect sense to me but not to him. Perish the thought but he is not really into WDW:scared1: so I'm already dragging him along. This might be the last summer vacation with the whole family together(our oldest will be starting university next fall) so on that front he's in. As far as letting him drive alone, he'd never go for that. It seems to me this is some kind of money issue to him. Funny though, we were going to go to Las Vegas instead and that would have cost at least $1000 more but he never said a single word about money.

Can someone come over to my house and beat some sense into him!:rotfl2:

Okay, I will come over with the pixie dust and see what we can do. If that does not work, you can get Stitch to pee in his shoes.

My husband wanted to drive because he was convinced it was cheaper than his plane ticket and he got to spend 3 days without the kids on the road. Plus we had a vehicle once we were down there as well.

The last time he drove was July 2005. Gas was near $2.90 US per gallon and he spent $325 US in gas alone.....sort of changed his mind about the driving part. Plus he ended up not feeling well for the very long drive home so it was not what it had been before. He will be flying with us in March 2008.

Hard to believe that things change in the vacation area as the kids grow up but everyone says it does. My kids are 8 and 11 and so it does not seem that we have many more years before we will be there too. All the more reason to take great vacations now while the kids are still young and want to come with us.

My kids are Disney freaks but I guess University and work, and boyfriends :scared1: will take priority at some point.

I am hoping that being DVC owners, the kids will eventually want to go back with their own families some day and they can use the membership. Nothing beats a family trip to WDW.

:goodvibes

I booked N/S out of Buffalo for Sept.11/07 7:05 a.m. depart and return Sept. 18th for 64.19 plus taxes ect. on Southwest two weeks ago. I just checked the flights this morning (May 20th 8:20 a.m.) and they show both the internet and promotion fares as unavailable:confused3 . The dw wanted to wait but I took it upon myself to book when the fares dropped by 20.00 two weeks ago.
I personally hate to wait last minute to book as you always take the chance of not geting a good rate on the tickets.
Lesson learned book when u can at a good rate.

It's more than just the fuel costs of driving vs flying. If you factor in the mileage (the lifetime cost per mile of owning the vehicle) it's rare when driving your own car is ever more economical than flying.

Figuring 3000 miles round trip on such a vacation and you can conservatively add $600+ for a moderately priced car to the gasoline costs to get the real cost of driving. Things like depreciation, tires, oil, maintenance etc all add up even if you don't figure in the fixed costs like insurance.
