It looks like there are several options for the dining plan at DL. I know it is not like the plan at WDW. I'm looking at the plan that says 6 disney dining choices per person which is $104. Can someone tell me if i can do character meals on this plan and if i'm correct i would get 4 meal credits and 2 snack credits per person. Or is it even worth getting the vouchers over paying OOP?

Thanks,

Stay far away from the DLR Dining Plans ~ you will likely lose $$$ ~ to budget or pre pay for meals I put $$ on a Disney Gift Card and purchase Character Meal vouchers.

I would not even think about doing the DLR dining plan. It does even resemble something like WDW does. In most cases in can be a $ loser.

Running away very quickly from the DL dining plan is kinda what i've been hearing over the last few months. I will have lots of money on my Disney Visa so i will just use that to eat.

Thanks for the advice.

Jade ~ if everyone but you says it's a bad idea who do you think is in the wrong?? You're welcome to use it if you choose to but for most of "us" we've looked at it and know it isn't worth it

Explain how it works and what i would have to purchase to have character meals included. Also, if i'm not on the dining plan will they charge for my 1 year old son at a character buffet? I know on the dining plan they don't.

Its a good thing if you know how to use it I do an I dont lose money on it.

Your 1 year old will not be charge at any character buffet and if you purchase a dining plan you wouldn't need one for him. Here's what a search of "dining plan" here on the DLR DIS board brings up ~ **~**

*This* is a good, recent post. And *one* from last year *all info is current ~ nothing has changed.

The Disney Dining Plan from what I understand is nothing like the one offered at WDW. We have used it once & yes, it was nice having meals prepaid but they were time consuming to make sure we got them used & didn't lose money on them. You are given vouchers for certain dollar amts ($15, $10, $5, etc). When you pay for your meal, you try to use the vouchers closest to the total as you will not get change back. We found ourselves buying extra things just to make sure we used the entire voucher amount. That is the biggest negative about this plan.

We found after that trip, that putting money aside then onto a Disney gift card ended up being easier for us. We didn't have to total things up before checking out & money left over on the card we could use elsewhere for gifts.

PS: Just a note, we had 8 people when we used the plan (6 adults, 2 kids) so that amount of vouchers might have just added to the confusion.....lol :rotfl:

Adult/Junior Meal Plans include
Character Dining 2
$15 Dining Certificate 2

So per person you would get 2 character meals (not the premium - Goofy's Kitchen or Ariel's and not for WOC packages). You could use those either for a character meal, or at any Disney restaurant for the face value (will be printed on the voucher), 2 $15 vouchers, and 2 snack voucher (I think these are around $6 each - I haven't used them in a couple of years).

That's a little harsh. I think if the plan works for someone, good show. If not, then don't use it. It works for us sometimes and sometimes it's not worth it, just depends on what I'm looking for.

Explain how it works and what i would have to purchase to have character meals included. Also, if i'm not on the dining plan will they charge for my 1 year old son at a character buffet? I know on the dining plan they don't.

You would just use the vouchers wherever you eat at a Disney restaurant (they have a list of all that are available - not all DTD restaurants, but then again the Disney GC don't work at all either). If you want to use the character meal voucher for a non-character meal, then it's the face value of the voucher.

We have used this in the past and it worked out fine as a pre-budgeted/pre-paid amount for food. Our only issue is that the portions were so huge, we wasted a lot of food. We were not able to use all the vouchers in one trip (I was able to use them on a subsequent trip though, so that was :thumbsup2)

It is not at all like the WDW plan, but it still can be useful. The drawback is that you have to spend the entire amount or no change. You sometimes end up having to pay a few cents to make up the difference (what can you get that costs exactly $15???).

Would I use them again? Yes, if I wanted to pre-pay for my food. Would I use it for every trip? Probably not.
