*disclaimer*
Some of this post may seem odd to some of you, but the General Gist should be pretty obvious...

Today, after riding MIB 3x, I left as I normally do. I saw the MIB (soon to be Mummy) supervisor and talked to him, as I had Information to give him. After I give him the Information, he asks if I still like my current location. I say "yeah, why?" and he tells me that he's still looking for good people and was wondering if I was interested.

My dilemma is: do you think I should go or not? I'm having a lot of fun in my current location. I am Master Trainer/Theme Rep/God there. I've weighed the pros & cons but still am uncertain.

pros:
Will learn a new area/information
Will get to be first on the Mummy
Will most likely get photo recognition (again)
Will get to laugh at those who have never experienced massive technical difficulties and freak out

cons:
Uncertain if status (Master Trainer/Theme Rep) will be affected
Technical difficulties may be common
Will have to abandon many of my buddies in my current area
May be too stressful of a location

side info:
I thought the Mummy movies were "ok" whereas in my current area, I loved the movie(s)
I've only been in my current location for 11 months
I have no desire for promotion at either location. Master Trainer is sufficient.
My dad & my apprentice said I should go.

Your thoughts?

Life is full of challeges DM I say go for it a new experience always spices up life:jester:

Expand your horizons - your contributions and observations on the new ride will be valuable for others

Hi DM.....Consider how the change would affect your evening school, is there more money (an obvious benefit!)and what you ultimately want to do in your career. How often do new opportunities arise to do something else - if often, then if you are happy and the money is no more, stay, but if these changes do not come about very often - then maybe your dad is right and taking up the new challenge will broaden your experiences, as you say you will be first at the mummy (a great one for us!!!;) ) and make new friends too.

I see you did the right thing, you weighed the plusses and hte minuses and are reviewing them.

Only you can make and LIVE with the decision, so I hope you make the right one.

Two quotes:

"Stick with the Devil you know"

and

"The only thing Constant is Change."

Both have a place in every life. Let us know what you decide.

That's a tough one. When you love what you do it's a real risk to move into something different.

But it is an honor to be specifically asked by someone to come and work with them - it means they respect your work and feel that you are someone who would contribute in a positive way to the new department.

Accepting the change also means that you are willing to branch out, try new things and grow within the company. If you say "no" too many times, there will come a time when you won't be asked again.

But, I think, if you want an "out" to stay where you are, you can reason that "I've only been in my current location for 11 months - I feel I am doing well there and I still have a lot to contribute. Thank you for thinking of me - I am grateful for the opportunity and please keep me in mind in the future as my situation may change. "

But that is only if you REALLY want to stay in your current location. I agree with the others who have said, if it is a move up - take it. The only real reason you shouldn't take it is if it is a "lateral move" (no gain in position or money) or if you feel that your other life circumstances would interfer with how well you perform on the new job.

Now, for that advice... do I get to know just "who" the Dark Marauder is???;)

Go.

You always want to move up, especially since you we're asked.

Sounds like maybe you need to explore it a little more to find out exactly what you'd be doing at the new job. If it is a lateral move (and even if it isn't since you are happy at your current level) I would hesitate to make the move since you are happy where you are. If you were looking for a change it would be different. We'll be down to Universal in a few months and I need to figure out exactly where you work. lol

Funny, but these are the decisions that you will continue to make all your life. My husband just asked me last night if he should consider applying for a job opening that he just heard about. I don't think it would be a promotion and probably not more money, but I told him that I had to think about it before I even gave him my opinion. In his case he has been thinking about making a job change so he should at least explore this new possiblilty.

Decisions! It never hurts to investigate other jobs. Especially in your case since it is within the same company.

Good luck DM! I can't give any better advice than what is already offered, but please keep us updated! Do you think you'd enjoy work as much if you change, than if you keep your current job? But I agree with checking out the position a little more to see if there are any benefits in moving on.

You have to evaluate the direction in which you had hoped to go. If this is not heading in that way, then you will never be happy. On the other hand, if it does aim you toward where you were hoping to get, then go for it!

If there is no significant career advancement, then the bottom line would have to be what will you enjoy more. It doesn't sound like you care for the theming of the mummy or would enjoy it as much but you seem to love what you do now. If you enjoy your current job and the perks and people, is it worth leaving?

Is your goal to remain at UO after you complete school? If so, it seems to me that the more of the business you know, the more indespensible you become. ("We can't lay off DM, he knows so many attractions that we can flex him where we need him" You get the drift) And, by the time the Mummy opens, you will have a year or more at your current location. Maybe you'll be ready for the change/challenge. Besides, the more technological the attraction, the greater the need for people who know what they are doing. As the consumer, that makes me feel more confident and safe. It would concern me if the Mummy staff was made up mostly of high school seniors looking for their first job! I think you should accept the honor/challenge and go. Even if the pay is not increased at first, at least you know you are being acknowledged and who knows what the future may hold?

If you enjoy where you are, why change? The thing that would make me change if I could get more $ on my paycheck. If not, then perhaps you need to spend more time at your current place. :)

I talked to the supervisor today. He said that my Requirements would not be a problem and he would check with the manager about the Theme Rep. My creativity will help greatly, so I'm confident that I'll be that. I just need the official story and the rest will be easy.

It's a lateral move, no increase in pay (OT may be a possibility since it is new), but a challenge, yes. I have no desire for promotion at the Mummy because I know that those who are the next step/half-step above will be pulling their hair out. ;) Luckily, with all my experience, I'll be the one saying "dude, chill, just do this".

IGB40-I plan on staying for a few more years, then cutting down to part-time.

I think there are a few very important issues you haven't considered.

CONS:

*Who will give me super special VIP treatment and behind the scenes access at your current attraction on my birthday???

*Those super cool shirts! How can you give up those super cool shirts???

*I can't help you with the themeing at the Mummy as I have with your current attraction. What will I have to live for now?

*You will be that much more far away from MIB!!!

*The whole mystic behind where you work will be lost... since everybody and their brother now knows you'd be transfering to the Mummy!

PROS:

*During those early months at the Mummy, when the lines'll be long and volumnous, you'll be able to give the FOTL hook-up to some of your DIS-squad friuends. Right, buddy?

*You'll be rid of those horribly tacky shirts.

*I don't know anything about the Mummy, so hopefully you'll stop bugging me about helping you with themeing!

*Mummys are scary.

*I will finally be rid of this terrible curse I must bear everyday of keeping your identitiy secret.

In conclusion, you must ask yourself one question, above all else: How will this transfer affect me, Doc Bosch?

-Kevin

My apprentice can take care of that first part, Docbosch.

As for the mystic, sure it will be gone, but I still wont reveal myself to those who don't know. Mwahahaha. Just look for the mummified seagull.

"Express hook-ups" are a possibility. No guarantees, unless you're with Notatourist, but that's a different situation...

And the MIB thing is irrelevant. It's still an equal walk from the backlot, through Amity to MIB. ;)

Hi Kevin.....hope you had a nice holiday and a happy new year. It's nice the way you are around to give advice when a friend needs you. Well said....! and I agree at the end of the day DM it's up to you and what your ultimate plans are for the future and if they are going to be with Universal. At least I hope everyone's thoughts might have helped a bit and given you different prospectives.:D

Congratulations, DM!

Change is good. Unless its bad. Then change is the devil. And if it bleeds, we can kill it.

I'm sorry. I think I'm just really tired right now.

I'll make more sense at a later date/time.

DM, Do you start right away at your new position or do you wait until closer to the opening date?
