Dilemma

We are getting a little money to finish off all the work i have done on the house and garden since we moved year ago but we have a bit of a dilemma.

As we are off to the world in October every spare penny we have has gone on that but recently Sarah's Grandad has been quite ill and has been in hospital for nearly a week. Basically they live in Torrevieja near Alicante and we so desperately want to see them and help out for a week or 10 days. He is a busy body old fella and runs around like a 50 year old which is stressing his heart alot.

So the problem is do we add another £1k or so onto the home improvement and break our rule on never borrowing to go on away. We have been looking at flights but the cheapest i have managed to secure is £633.

I think we should and her Grandad should mean more than any extra loan but we have to be so careful this year due to having to settle the Orlando holiday in August.

How about using the £ you have for home improvements for a trip to Alicante as that would seem more pressing than decorating

I would say add the £1k on as it really isn't a holiday it is a family matter, go while you can as you may regret it should the worst happen. At least it is only £1k, perhaps you could start paying it back, by upping the repayments, once you have been to Orlando?

what about taking out a 0% interest credit card for the £1,000.
just as an emergency measure, that way you can pay it off with no interest and get those flights booked so you can get to Alicante.

We have some thinking to do, the date we were thinking of going would be the day he would be returning from the UK after his Grandsons wedding but i dont think they are goona let him fly. Will certainly need cheering up.

As with using the money from the house, its not really decorating, we have an empty shell for a bathroom and 60m2 of garden that needs more soil and turf, they all really need sorting. There are other cosmetic things that can wait.

If it was just for a holiday I'd say no but in this case I'd bite the bullet and do it. It sounds like the timing sounds perfect

That seems quite a lot. What about flights to Murcia which is close to Torrevieja?

It seems it could be cheaper here in London though. Hope you can find a good deal and go for it.

Problem is with Murcia and the smaller airports is there is less flight availability so the cost starts higher.

A very difficult decision, I hope you make it without too much stress, I think i'd go along with the 0% interest credit card option and make sure the kids know that you're going there, not for a holiday, but to spend time with your grandad, that way there won't be too much nagging for expensive excursion type trips.

We have both not been so well today and have had a chance to talk about this. I think we will go (cost permitting as i hate to think of a last minute cost) if Sarahs Grandad is not allowed to fly. If he recovers sufficiently and does fly we wont bother.
