Christy,

To answer your question about the shadows, I used Linear Burn instead of Multiply. Britt originally gave the tip in the chat room during one of the speed scraps. It works really well on dark backgrounds. Though with the linear burn you might have to adjust some of the other settings because sometimes it seems too dark.

Here are two more I did for challenges at SM.

Scalloped Corn - This is an old family recipe. We have it every holiday. I didn't see that there were additional rules for the recipe challenge and didn't have time to redo it. Oh well. I liked how it turned out.

Beauty - Photos from the Lincoln Park Conservatory in Chicago, IL. I had been working on this one for a while, but couldn't decide how to embellish it. I decided not to do too much because I wanted the focus on the photos.

Here's a page I just completed using JenLin Designs "Holiday Sprinkles" and Christy's "Peek-a-boo" template.

I brought the kids to Mt. Vernon on Black Friday (along with everyone else who wasn't shopping!!!), and on the way out we saw Chef Mesiner, the former White House pastry chef, signing books. So, naturally I had to purchase a book and make a LO, too!

I am so impressed with everyone's shadow techniques! All I have been doing is clicking on the default shadow button; I have never tried all these things you all have been mentioning -- of course, that just means it will take me even longer to do a LO! ha

QuiltyMom -- you mentioned you used Christy's template. Does Christy have a shop somewhere I missed? Fill me in because I do like her work.

Anyone have some digi scrap cyber monday sales i should take advantage of?

LOL! I definitely do not have shop... but some of us who use SBC+ share templates over in that thread... since we can't use PSE templates.... You have to scrap in that software to use them -- otherwise I'd share with everyone if I could.... Thanks for the nice compliment though.

Hello Ladies
I wanted to ask for help on the shadows. There have been a couple recent posts about using shadows (besides the default that I normally use) I found Britt's tut in the SM newsletter. There is also a tut in a recent SM team blog about color and direction. I would love to try these out, but I have a am having problems trying th linear burn. When I try to apply it to the shadow, my element changes. Am I supposed to put the shadow in a separate layer? If so, how do I do that? I have PSE 6; perhaps I would need something more sophisticated to play with the linear burn. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

I don't use PSE but when you go to do your shadow when the dialog box pops up for what you want to do there should be a box somewhere that says "shadow on a separate layer" or something to that effect. I'm pretty sure you can shadow separate is PSE.... If you can't, a way to do it would be duplicate your object, shadow it and place the original right on top of it. (just switch the layers so your original is on top of the duplicate)As long as you don't move(adjusting layer position shouldn't affect this) or resize either layer they should line up right. I hope that made sense.

Thanks Wen
I don't see where to add shadows in a separate layer, so I tried your other suggestion about duplicating the layer and applying the shadow to the duplicated layer. Then I add linear burn to the duplicated layer, but I don't really notice a difference in the shadow. I'll keep fiddling with it. Thanks!

Is there a way to change the blend mode on that shadow only? Click on the tabs in your shadow box. There should be a layers properties box somewhere I would think. Search your tabs and/or buttons when that box pops up when you're doing your shadows. If you post a screen shot of your shadow dialog box I could try and help you figure it.
Thanks Wen

Here Suzi try this! This looks like it will solve the issue for you. Kind of like I suggested but a little more in depth. Follow the tut and then change your blend mode to "burn." Actually I will suggest playing w/different blend modes until you get one you like. If you need any help with the tut, let me know.

Wen! You are such a sweetie for finding that for me! Thank you. I will take a look at it. This board is just full of such kind people!

Here is the layout I did with Britt's new alpha. :)

Last week or so my sister found a cute little Santa hat for cats that has a beard!!! We put it on Draco for a few minutes and he was sooooo cute! I didn't get pictures of it yet. :) If you can't tell we like to dress up our cats. It tortures them, but amuses us. :lmao:

Britt- perfect Disney page, I love it!

Christy-Fab kit for those pictures, awesome LO!

Melissa-Just wonderful! Love the lights going through the title. Yet another idea to borrow from you!

I've only got one LO done this week and I still have to tweak it a little bit. I sent it to Britt with only 5min to spare, lol!

Here is one I did for the quick page exchange at SM:

The colors in the photo looked better on the laptop than they do on my PC monitor at work. Oh well.
