I got two more of my Gettysburg layouts done
Lincoln Speech Memorial - This is one of the few layouts where all of the pictures used are technically from our 2006 trip. I was going to use the 2007 pics, but left the disc with the photos at work. D'oh! I have them saved on the other computer, but that would have required emailing them to myself, etc, etc. Quite the hassle. And the 2006 photos look pretty much the same, except I think there are more leaves on the trees.
The Lincoln Speech Memorial is located near the west gate of the national cemetery, not at the location where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address. It was dedicated in 1912 to commemorate Lincoln's now infamous words.

Soldier's National Monument - Page 1 - This is one of two layouts, but the second part isn't done yet. This is my favorite monument at Gettysburg National Cemetery. The Gettysburg National Cemetery was one of the first national cemeteries created during the war. In the book I'm reading the one chapter talked about the problems both armies and civilians faced with burying the dead after these huge battles. Victorian ideals sort of demanded a proper burial, but often times there wasn't time for that because they had to be buried quickly. During the war at Gettysburg and Antietam they created a national cemetery. Gettysburg's was dedicated in November 1863, six months after the battle. As part of the ceremony Abraham Lincoln was asked to say a few words. He wasn't even the main speaker that day. What he said that day has become infamous and known as the "Gettysburg Address."
The Soldier's National Monument stands pretty close to the site where Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address. It stands at the center of the soldier's cemetery. The two figures on the front of it represent "War" and "Peace." At the top is the figure representing Liberty holding a sword in one hand and a wreath of peace in the other. It is a truly stunning monument.
