GrumpyMom -- Oh my gosh -- she is precious.... And wow -- did that designer make that kit to match her dress? :lmao:

Tinker -- What a great layout! I am going to be stalking Wendy and Peter on the ship so I can get some good pics to use with that kit! I love how you used the sparkly frames on an angle... I tend to be a tad too symmetrical and am trying to loosen up -- I love that look. :)

Gettysburg National Cemetery - This layout I wanted to keep simple. The top photo is the only one from our 2007 trip, the others are from 2006. For some reason in 2007 we didn't really get any of the area around the monuments. The way Gettysburg National Cemetery is set up is the the Soldier's National Monument is in the middle, then the graves of the Union soldiers surround it in a semi-circle. Each state that fought there has a section. The most heartbreaking aspect to me is all of the "unknowns." So many men died and were buried without their loved ones knowing where they were. Naming the individuals who died during the Civil War was extremely difficult. They didn't have dog tags or any real kind of way to identify soldiers other than by things found in their pockets and often time thieves would pick the pockets of the dead clean, leaving nothing to identify the body. Civilians often raced to the battlefields to look for loved ones to bring them home and to give them a name. So many died without names other than as Walt Whiman said "by the significant word Unknown." It wasn't until the Korean War that the US created a policy of identifying and bringing back every soldiers. It always makes me cry to see the number of "Unknown" graves. The bottom right photo is of a section of "unknown" graves, marked only by numbers. The poem on the left is parts of "Bivouac of the Dead" by Theodore O'Hara that is posted around the cemetery on plaques.

I have another one, but I have to go watch next week's episode of the Tudors now. ;) I'll be back later to post the other one.

Soldier's National Monument - Page 2 This is the other page for the Soldier's National Monument. It was the first monument of any kind at Gettysburg.

This particular monument is full of symbolism. Beneath the figure at the top around the shaft are 18 stars that represent the 18 loyal states that fought at Gettysburg. Beneath that is a coat of arms that was the symbol of the Union the men preserved. Liberty at the top sits upon a three-quarter globe holding a sword in one hand and a victor's wreath in the other. At the bottom of the monument are four figures. These were actually carved in Italy. The first one is War represented by a soldier surrounded by the tools of war. He sits telling his story to History who writes it down along with the names of the dead in her book. She sits upon a pile of books of past achievements. A pyramid and palm tree next to her symbolize man's heritage whereas the columns that are crumbling on her other side represent man's vanity and ambitions. On the back side of the monument is Plenty which represents peace and abundance brought by the soldier's victory. The final statue is Peace which is represented by a man rather than the the classical interpretation. This information comes from a book I got while at Gettysburg called Gettysburg: Stories of Men and Monuments as told by Battlefield Guides by Frederick W. Hawthorne.

I said it before and it is truly stunning. It is a work of art and simply amazing. I used a portion of "Bivouac of the Dead" here as well.

Tinker, Caitsmama, Grumpymom, Yzerbear and DisneyCruiser... Wow!!!! Look at all those pages. They all look terrific. I am filing away lots of ideas from all of your fabulous work. I am still working on getting more elements on my pages. It is just a style that I would like to work on. Here is the latest page that I have done.

Then home to work work work before checking the DIS. :) Now its after 1:30 in the morning and I have just GOT to get to bed. Not that you cared to know all that! HAHAH! I'm just really out of it and tired.

Nighty night!

Wow!! Look what happens when i go to bed --- everyone posts!! LOL
Great layouts!!!! I am digesting them as i sip my a.m. coffee before jumping on the treadmill! :)

OK, one more layout with Britt's new kit! First of all, though, I want to say that everyone's layouts are fantastic! I sure have a long way to go. Yzerbear, your pages are wonderful and I enjoy the mini history lessons! Also, all of you who are posting Disney cruise pages...now I know what to do with all those cruise pictures on my hard drive!

For those of you who have never been to Disney's Vero Beach Resort, there's an underground walkway that goes to their property (parking lot, tennis courts, etc.) on the other side of the street. Along the walkway walls are paintings of the characters from Peter Pan. That's where these pictures are from. Also, the topiary in front of the resort by the "Welcome Home" sign is the crocodile. So, needless to say, I had more photos to use with this kit!!

Love all the layouts! I don't have time right now to post individually, but they are all awesome!

Here are two I've been working on but not sure I'm finished with them. Port Orleans is such a beautiful resort! It was our first time there and it was amazing.

Paper & stitches - I forgot. I'll try to find it and give credit asap.

I've got to do a better job keeping up with credits as I go. I guess I get caught up in design and then end up forgetting where things come from.

Susan - Beautiful pages and Port Orleans IS a beautiful resort. BTW, what font did you use?

OMG, she is adorable, great layout. Fits perfectly :thumbsup2

OK, so I am off work today, so I told myself that I will actually COMPLETE a LO! I am almost done, but I want to post it so I can get some suggestions on improvement. Anyway, I need to first create a photobucket account in order to post. Here is my question: can random people view these photos on photobucket? I certainly don't mind other DIS-ers seeing them, but I just want to be sure that complete strangers can't just view my pictures (I realize there is no personal info on the pictures, but I am just weird about it)
Thanks!

Just set your account to private and no one can see them but you can still post pics.
