Hello!

Where's the best (aka cheapest) place to get digital photos printed out? Costco? Walmart?

Do I just bring in my memory stick??

Thanks! I've just printed them out on my own before... but I plan to have WAY TOO many!! :woohoo:

Different places offer different prices. I uploaded mine to bestbuy when it was buy 100 for .10 cents each. And also Photolab with Zehrs when it was .12 cents. I couldn't get my photos to upload to walmart. However, you can take your memory stick in and do it that way.

Costco is $.18 per print and Walmart is $.24 per print. I don't suggest using Walmart online to order your pictures because I have now waited a month for one-hour digital prints, but they do run some good specials. If I ever get mine, they'll be $.12 each. Generally ordering online will save a few cents a print, but it's not always reliable.

I've been pleased with Costco, both with price and quality.

This summer I got over 300 digital pictures printed within 24-48 hours. I don't remember if they did it in 1 or 2 days for me. I wasn't in that much of a hurry to get them. They also developed my 17 rolls of film in 24 hours.

Big orders tend to take a little longer, but I've received them back in about 2 days. I think they will do a maximum of 75 digital prints for 1 hour service, of course it depends on how busy they are when you bring in your order.

The machine used to load digital prints for processing, will take CD's, memory cards, diskettes, memory sticks(not sure).

For my girls softball teams last season, I also got 8x10 pictures done that turned out very nice. The 2 day service cost me $1.99 each.

bev is there a wesbsite for Costco that you can just upload your digital images to or do you have to take your memory card right into the store?I don't like to have to stand in line and then folks are waiting patiently behind me while I decide which pics I want to order.

Also beglluvr I ordered prints from Walmart too with the 12 cent special and they called me within 10 days to pick them up. I never seem to get an email from either Zehr's or Walmart and most itmes I just go in and ask and they are already for me. :thumbsup2

We went out and purchased an Epson Picturemate Deluxe it works out to be a little more per print than the stores but the pictures are great and you can just print what you wnat when you want them. You can print direct from teh memory cards without the PC or connect it to the C and touch up or enhance the photo then print it from there. The printer was 249.00 but well worth it IMHO.

Costco.ca has an online phone centre, but it is only for selected locations (Manitoba & Quebec). I go to Costco often enough, that I'm not really going out of my way to get my prints done there.

If you have lots of pictures to print, it may take you a while to transfer them onto the machines for printing.

One other thing I did like the the Costco I go to, is that the service people there were extremely helpful and friendly.

I did some research today and Costco is still $0.18, and Walmart is $0.24. Future Shop is not worth it, but Best Buy is $0.19 right now! This appeals to me because you can do it all online... I agree that "hogging" the machines at Costco is not my favourite thing to do!

Thanks everyone! :thumbsup2

Future Shop is actually worth the money. They use much better photo paper. Much thicker. Also the colour rendition is actually the best of the bunch with Costco being the worst.
Of course, my experience is based on my area's Costco, WalMart, FutureShop and Loblaws (all GTA)

The Shopper's Drug Mart website is having a special on EasyPix... you can upload them and get prints for only $0.19. For new customers only, and the limit is 100.

Has anyone used this service? Any good?

Starting in March, Costco's upload program will be available at my location (Niagara Region). Regarding 'hogging' the machine...don't sweat it. I work at Costco and the only time I see a bit of a wait is on weekends. Go Sunday's before church is out or weekdays.

I know we have some new high tech machine that's coming in that everyone's buzzing about. Don't know what that's about but maybe it's some kind of quality improvement machine (colour, paper...etc) :confused3

Hi jinglesmountjoy!

I just wanted to say hi... it's exciting to see another person from Welland on these boards... I never expected that to happen. I assume work at the Costco in St. Catharines which I visit from time to time (My mom & I went in together for a membership, but they wouldn't let me have my own card because we don't live at the same address :sad2: ) I'll definitely be trying them out for digital prints next time.

I see by your counter that you're heading to WDW in a couple of days... have a great trip!

Kelly Grannel - Just wanted to clarify what you said about Future Shop prints (Kodak) and Costco (Fuji Crystal Archive). Fuji from Costco and Zehrs is actually rated higher than Kodak - check out www.wilhelm-research.com for longetivity results. I just compared my prints from Future Shop and Costco and I still prefer Costco, especially since their Fuji prints are rated to last much longer than Kodak. Future Shop's advertising is a bit misleading (read the Wilhelm site to find out how Kodak is fudging their longetivity results) regarding Kodak's prints being much more thicker than Fuji's - I had my hubby do a blind test and he picked Fuji from Costco everytime over Future Shop's prints - plus Costco is a lot cheaper than Future Shop, so this may be a comparison for some.

Along the same lines, good inkjet prints from home are rated longer than lab prints nowadays, so if longetivity is an issue (as it is for me since I'm a scrapbooker), than printing at home may be a consideration. If cost is a factor, than go to Costco or Zehrs (photolab) as Walmart is horrendous - just got a 1hr prints from 4 weeks ago - how's that for quick service! Plus they use the cheapest Kodak paper available (at least Future Shop uses Royal Paper which is rated higher, but not higher than Fuji) and their prints come out just terrible.

I honestly don't know about longevity. All I know is that recently I printed 200 shots at Futureshop, Costco and The Lounge (my pro photofinisher). The results are as follows:

1. Stacked, Costco stack is the lowest, with Futureshop second and The Lounge being the thickest by a small margin over Futureshop (but FAR thicker stack than Costco.

2. Colour rendition, my pics at Costco are all washed out. Similar colour rendition between Futureshop and The Lounge with Futureshop being more saturated. This is after explicitly instructing all of them to NOT do colour/exposure correction. I compare the final prints with several prints I've made from home (calibrated monitor and printer). The Lounge is dead-on with my reference print.

3. Price, well, Futureshop is overly expensive, Costco (Markham location) is the same price as The Lounge but considering addendum 1 and 2, I'll stay away from Costco.

Funny you should mention Fuji Paper at Costco because my latest print at Markham Costco doesn't even show what brand of photo paper they use. Maybe they are one of the deliquent Costcos? Regardless, they currently are replacing all their machine and tearing down the entire photo finishing area at Costco Markham.

The Epson photomate deluxe we just purchased the prints are supposed to last about 200 years. They also will not run if you happen to get water on tehm like th old inkjet ones would and they are dry as soon as they come out of the printer so you can handle them right away.

I got some from the Best Buy online site recently and the quality was very good, much better than Walmart IMHO. They are slow though... it took about 2 weeks to get them back, but it was cheap - on special for $0.10 each (4x6).
