Digital photo frame

.... "Power conditioning" is pure nonsense IMHO. I am very skeptical by nature and few industries have more silly garbage for sale than the audio industry. IMHO spending money on fancy speaker wire or power conditioners or so on is a total waste. Audiophiles hate double-blind tests as they usually prove that these fancy high-end devices are just baloney - I don't think any fancy speaker wire has ever been detected in a double-blind test. I bought more or less generic (but high gauge) speaker wire from Parts Express and it's great. I did pay a lot of money for a high-end Better Cables HDMI video cable but I felt dirty doing it but there's a lot more going on in one of those than a speaker wire. ....

First off...

... regrets to all for drifting off topic... and otherwise in brief reply... Groucho, I have to ECHO you setiments on the high end audio gimmicktry. I also bought high end AV cables and felt miffed about giving in to the idea. They were pricey for what they were. But - I will now seek out AV forums = odd that it did not occur to me to look for it before. And I am going to investigate setting up a dedicated PC with a fair front projector in a 1.5 size to viewing distance set up. My addition is targeted for completion ib Q1 or Q2 of '07... so I do have a little time to shake out some details. The Epson may go to the family room now if I settle on a front view projector in time for completion.

Thanks again for your seemingly authoratative remarks! :lmao: Seriously, your thoughtful insights are honestly appreciated.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming....

Glad I could help. Don't take my word as expert but that's the distillation of tons of research around the time I was doing heavy construction of the room (it's 100% done by my father and I in my basement) - the problem is that it got about 85%-90% done, 100% functional, and doing those last few steps is taking me forever! (Like very little done in the past year!) One of these days I'll finish it proper...

OK, back to digital picture frames. :)

one reason that most in-car LCDs look better than a laptop or LCD panel, is they aren't matte. this washes out the colours and slightly softens the screen. there are several laptops that you can get with a glossy screen - like the Macbook. the colours are great compared to other laptops, but they're almost unuseable due to the reflection (IMHO). the Phillips digital screens have a matte finish, so the photos don't quite look as good on them as they do on my Epson p2k's glossy screen, but the images still look fantastic.

Okay, I'm still looking for a digital photo frame. I really like the looks and features of the Phillips, however, can you only buy these online? I can't find them in any stores. I'd really like to see on up close.

Or are there any others with the same features available in stores. I can't seem to find something comparable

Sharper Image has them in store. I went and looked at them and very impressed with the quality. Althought it is the most expensive but I think I'm going with Philips. However before I purchase, I'm going back with my own memory card to see if I like the 7" or the 9" frame better. The resolution is the same on both. Sharper Image has a very strict return policy so I want to be certain before I purchase from them.
