I see a lot of threads praising the merits of digital cameras. I too agree that digital is the way to go - we used a digital camera on a trip to Russia last December and bought one as soon as we came home. It's the best investment we've made in a long time.

Now as far as getting prints from my digital pix - I use an online service called Snapfish (www.snapfish.com). The prices are the best we've seen from any of the online services. They allow you to upload your pictures to their servers and then you can decide which ones you want prints of and even give you editing tools to fix red eyes, etc.

I usually edit them on my pc at home before uploading them to Snapfish, but once I order the prints - they come out beautifully. Not one bad picture!

You can prepay and get prints as low as $.19 each - a great deal when most of the others are $.25 each.

Enjoy your cameras!

I use Snapfish as well, but after I got my digital, I didn't realize you could upload to their site. Eventually, I got my daughter to do this for me, but didn't get around to ordering the prints... They sent me an email giving me a deadline to order the prints, and due to some personal problems not speanding much time on the computer. When I finally got around to it (the day of the deadline), I tried to log on to the Snapfish site, and I couldn't. All my albums were deleted! I was so upset, you have no idea. Anyway, I frantically looked for their phone number on the site and called customer service. The person I spoke to said usually once they've been deleted, that's it. There's no way to get them back! But, she said she'd try and that I should try again in about 1/2 hour. I waited (holding my breath) and Thank God, she was able to upload all my albums. Needless to say, I immediately ordered the prints and they came out great.......

If you don't want to purchase on line, Walgreens has a coupon this week for .20 digital prints if you purchase 50 or more. Can anyone do Disney with less than 50 pictures??? I have over 500 to choose from!!!!

The digital photo development fees at Disney are very high.

Spend the money on extra memory cards instead.
You can reuse them and get them developed much cheaper at snapfish.com, and of course the cards are reusable.

You can also delete the pictures you don't like so you dont pay for developing those.

I took over 400 pictures at the highest resolution on my 3.2 Mpixel camera and fit them all on a 256M and a 128M card.

We have ours done locally at CVS for .29 a print.

About once a month they offer a special where you can get 5 prints for free. I always take advantage of that!

Keep in mind that if you are going to use them in a scrapbook that printing them yourself may be the way to go. Most inkjet inks are acid free and if you use the acid free papers they will keep a long time. In fact many of the ink jet prints are rated to last longer than traditional developing.

To my knowledge, the cost of that practice is very prohibitive.

Printing your own photos is very reasonable. A 4x6 print is about 29 cents. To print your own 8x10 is about 1.25 to 1.50 I don't think those prices are bad. I like being able to decide what paper, how to crop, etc inside of the photo shop.

Many many scrapbookers are printing their own photos.

Per picture the ink and paper costs are similar when comparing printing your own vs. having them done. The cost of the printer however, is very expensive. Most new computers come with a free (or very cheap) color printer. To upgrade to a better printer that can match the quality of snapfish (etc.) is going to cost $200. Even if you were to print 2,000 pictures the cost of the printer is still $.10 a print, which IMO makes it an unreasonable option. That doesn't even take into account time you would spend printing the pics.

And if you want to crop or edit pics you can do it yourself before you send the pics out for developing.

We have a color laser that prints excellent quality prints.
I cannot say enough about investing in a good quality printer.
You did not factor in the time to get the prints to the photo finisher, the hassle if they don't come out correctly and the pride of doing it yourself.

I usually use Club Photo to print my digi-prints, but recently I tried using Giant's online service ... uploaded and the print (5x7)was at the store less than 48 hours later.

I can also go into my CVS pharmacy, upload my photos to their in- store 'puter. Go next door to Giant and grocery shop. by the time I'm finished at Giant my photos are ready.

Sure wish Giant and CVS offered the 4xD prints, if they did I'd use them all the time.

If you use a regular camera, I have some panaromic, and some water cameras, bring your Snapfish envelopes with you and mail your cameras or film. By the time you get home your photos are will underway to be developed.

Also, if you print your own, you can scrapbook like I do, on a whim. I never have time to sit down and plan out which pictures I am going to use and go get them printed. By printing at home I can choose them, edit them and print them all while getting the page ready for the picture.
