Hi everyone!
I'm trying to decide what to do about pictures on our trip. We have a very old digital camera that we want to bring, but if we bring it we would also need to bring a laptop with us to store the pictures if we exceed the memory card. Which would be very easy to do since we'll be in Orlando for 9 days! :thumbsup2
Or should we just bring a big bunch of disposable cameras and have the pics developed before we get home? Is there a place to do this at the airport?

What has worked for you guys in the past? If you have brought your "real" camera, does a simple Ziploc bag help keep it dry on, say, Splash Mtn.?

Thanks!

What kind of memory does it use? Memory cards have really come down in price and you might be able to spend the same amt of money and just have extra memory which can be reused whereas a disposable camera is thrown away after one use. I would check Costco if you're a member and definitely check online. If your not sure what site to buy from ask on the Dis photography board (under "just for fun") and there are several regulars there who can point you to reputable e-tailers.

hth.

you should be able to get a decent (not great but maybe better than you have now) digital camera for under $150 and a big memory card for another $30 or less.

i don't know how many photos you take but the cost of the disposable cameras and processing adds up pretty fast.

and as all4fun said, flash cards are incredibly cheap now so you might be able to buy some more for your current camera too.

We had a memory card for our camera and then got another one from Rite aid for 13.00 3 weeks ago just so we could have extra room. We took almost 300 pictures with both memory cards and had extra room for 700 more pictures. I think they have a sale on some this week too.

We bought a new digital since i want the option of being able to photoshop the pics before I get them developed. Besides, I only develop the ones I want unlike the disposables, you have to develop them all.

We did pick up a few disposables for the girls to take pics with, that way if we lose them no biggie :thumbsup2

a ziplock bag will do the trick for keeping your camera dry. I double bagged my camera (but it was new, and I was over protective of it).

I vote for bringing extra memory cards. Disposables just don't cut it for me, not good enough quality. But I am a photo freak.

If I use a camera bag I don't worry about moisture. If its just in my backpack or purse then I use a lare ziplock. That works great.

I take at least 1000 pictures on every Disney trip (took 1200 in June) so it's definitely digital for us. For our 1st trip, I took 10 disposables and the processing was crazy! I say spend the money you'd spend on processing and either buy a newer digital camera or a better memory card! Have fun! :)

I forgot to add, yes a ziplock bag will work but I wouldn't keep the camera in it longer than the ride takes because condensation could build up. Normally dh wears our compact digital camera on his belt, in a camera bag that has a belt loop on it (easy to find @ Walmart or Target in the photography/electronics section). We also have a video camera which I either wear by the strap if I want it to be easily accessible or I put in my bag (backpack usually). I used to keep it in a camera bag but it was too much to carry around and made it too inaccessible. Knock on wood, we've never really had any problems with moisture or our camera's being damaged. hth.

I would go with a digital. If you can, buy a new one and a big memory card. You can always take the card and have the pics burned to a cd. What I do is each night I go through my pics and delete the bad ones to free up space. I also love digital because you can view your shot right away and reshoot it if you need to. Disposables cant zoom, arent as good quality, and if youre flying are a pain. You cant stick it in your luggage or the xrays will destroy the film. They would have to be hand checked at security and with the way things are now thats just one more hassle.

DIGITAL, without question. If you have kids, disposables would be a great idea so that they can take their own pics. We took one for our DD4 (then 3) and she loved it - and it was great fun for us to see how they turned out. We took our laptop w/ us and at the end of almost every day, DH would upload them and we got to delete the ones that weren't very good. That's the great thing, you can weed them out easier - with regular prints, it's harder for people to throw away the pictures since they are already in "paper" form. And w/ a digital, you can take a TON of pictures of the same thing and worry later about picking out the best one(s) - with a regular or disposable camera you have to worry about running out of film. And other posters are right, you can get digital cams for SO cheap now (if OP wanted to spend money on one) - we took one that we had for several years - we ended up buying a new one soon after we got back from WDW....it's a Sony Cybershot and I think it was just a couple hundred. :)
