I need to buy a new digitial point and shoot camera - I am looking for one that takes great shots in low light without to much fuss, as well as great everyday photos, a decent zoom and higher megapixel. I was looking to spend under $200.00. I was thinking of a Canon Sure shot (???) for a Nikon cool pix - any suggestions. We have been a kodak family for many, many years, so I'm hestitant to switch.

I bought the Sony cybershot 14 mp about a month ago and love it much more than I thought I would - it was on sale for 100 buks at Target and I can't believe how great the pics and videos are

We're a canon family. I've also heard great things about the Nikon. We've owned probably 5 different 'generations' of the canon point and shoots. Not because they don't last long (they actually take quite a beating) but because we've been buying them that long and we're THAT rough on our cameras (my dh is former military and used to take them on field ops and the like with him... the poor things). Everyone I've had has taken great pictures :cool1:

I'm a Canon fan for my "real" cameras, but for point and shoot my personal favorite is the Panasonic Lumix. It's got one of the best lenses in a PnS out there.

I also picked up a Sony Cybershot on Blue-on clearance at SAMs for $87, reg price was $160ish. it was the DSC 330 something. I love how it tells you the format it is shooting, like twilght, zooms on the faces, blocks the subject...like a mini computer framing the shots.

The price was right to get me through and it does the job, on sale at Target now for $119.00 $30 off. It is so slim, fits anywhere, the battery last forever, the spare if you want is about $19. or less,
But would have loved to add the Lumix.

If I were going to choose one for my personal all around camera I would choose Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20R 14.1MP Digital Camera with 8x Optical Zoom
- Red Target has 8 x zoom, child, pet, sunset, etc.
My son has a Lumix and it is fantastic. I can not say enough for the wide array of needs it meets in the family photo's. trips, and photo for fun.

I have my work horse a Canon also, but really needed something 14mg, and great low light for work until I could afford to replace my work horse.

The only thing the PnS, it is missing is the zoom of X21 or better in my work horse, the point and shoot is a 4x. This is nice for its needs. but work wise I am not climbing up onto a ladder to document damage, and need the zoom.

I have a Canon point and shoot. It's the s95. It is not cheap($369 was what I paid) but it takes great pictures in low light. Lots of options once you take the setting off of Auto. I very rarely even use the flash anymore.

Also the Canon sx130 is a great camera - has a nice zoom and takes good pictures. Not that compact though. That one was $249.

Check for image stablization. My BFF got a really nice camera several years ago that now resides in the closet. She went back to a cheaper one because the nice one doesn't have the image stablization and she wasn't happy with the lack of photo quality because of that.

Another Canon fan!

I bought the Canon Elph last year and still love it! I will say that I have used Nikon in the past and I did try a Coolpix before buying the Elph. I did not think the picture quality was as good.

I have a canon P&S for my purse.

Have you considered used? I found this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Cybersho...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1294934098&sr=1-1

Originally $499, but I got it a year ago for $150 and it included 3 memory cards (2GB each), a case, and 8 Sony camera batteries as well as the charger.

I got it for my son who said he didn't want a DSLR, but wanted a "bridge" camera. I thought this would be a way for him to check it out inexpensively.

To say that I really, really like this camera is an understatement! When I don't want to carry my heavy DSLR, I take this one with me! The pictures come out much better than my cheaper Canon, although the Canon is great for being a compact, tiny, carry around camera.

There are newer versions of this camera available, and I imagine you could pick up a 10MP for a good deal. But the 7mp has actually proven to be sufficient for most of our needs for now.
