Digital camera under $100?

I'd like to get DD an el-cheapo digital camera, but I don't want to waste my money in a piece of crap.

Do any of you know of anything cheap and easy? Preferably one that doesn't have a big lag time between pressing the shutter button and taking the picture, because she'll surely blur all her pictures if that happens (she's only 10 and not great with gadgets).

In Canada, you can't get a digital camera with your spec under US$100. Not even under US$200.

I agree with Kelly on the less expensive cameras you can not find great picture quality AND no lag. Some may give you decent(subjective) shutter response, but will suffer in other areas(PQ). etc...

So in that price range it will be a compramise, take this $99 Olympus camera. It has shutter lag of about 1.5 seconds, but takes decent(for this price range) pictures.

Well, thanks anyway! Maybe I'll dig out my old film camera and give it to her. The only thing I'm worried about is her thinking she can take hundreds of pictures the way I do and wasting a ton of film.

But we all learned on film cameras, right? Why does she have to go digital right away anyway?

Well, that's actually good logic, but might end up leading you to a less expensive digital. Though, as you pointed out, the lower-priced models have delays, she'll learn how to take those photos with the delay. (It'll actually help teach patience! ) And as much as it takes her to learn it, she can just delete the shots that don't work out for her.

picture taking with delay will teach her to "anticipate and compensate", something that she'll need to do if she wants to be a serious photographer.

I bought a cheap Kodak for my DD for Christmas. She was only 6 at the time and she learned how to use the camera with delay really quick. Now she takes some pretty good pictures.

I think I only paid a little over a $100.00 for it at Christmas time.

I bought my daughters Mustek cameras a couple of years ago from one of the online shopping channels. I got tired of developing pictures of bodies without heads. They were about $70 and are 3 megs and run on AA batteries. They love them and they take pretty good pictures for what they are.

When I got my new Canon S2 IS, Youngest DS (age 14) was delighted that I was going to give him my old Olympus C-720. He already had an Olympus digital camera with 3 x optical zoom (can't remember the model) but he wanted more optical zoom. (What can I say, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree! ). We decided to give his camera with the 3 x optical to his grandmother (my DM)! Try teaching an 83 year old woman how to use a digital camera!
