my daughter needs a digital camera for an upcoming school project. I'm hoping to get one that takes decent pictures, but doesn't cost an arm and a leg - especially if she's going to be bringing it to school and leaving it in a locker at times. Any suggestions. I tried Walmart today and bought a Dshot - it stinks - the pictures are so grainy. How much do I really need to spend to get a half way decent pic.

thanks

You should get something that's 1.3 megapixel at the very least. That would give you decent enough pics. If you're thinking she might need to enlarge the pics, go for a 2 megapixel. That should be sufficient for her needs.

Walmart.com has a 2 mp Digital Concept camera for 48.76. Don't know the quality of the pic though.

For you to get a decent digital camera, you will need to spend at least a $150. Walmart.com has an Olympus 3.2 mp D-395 for $148.43. Maybe you can return the camera you bought in the store for a credit and then apply it towards the Olympus.

I would stick with a name brand camera so you are more likely to get better optics and nice pictures. Olympus, Nikon, Kodak, Sony, and Fuji all make cameras from entry level to pro level.

I know $150 is a lot to spend on a camera but that seems to be the minimum investment right now. I am looking for a decent entry level camera for my girls to share (they're 6 and 4) so am hoping for the price come down more before I get one. I had bought my oldest a Barbie film camera for $15 two years ago and she dropped it and it broke. She did get to take a few rolls of film with but a lot of the pictures had a finger in it or the person was cut off. I think we would be better off with a digital for her so that she can see the pics right away and only print the ones that come out good. I spent at least $30 for the camera, film and processing for 4 or 5 "useable" pictures. Hopefully, she won't drop the digital camera after we get it!

You should be able to get a 3 meapixle for about $130-170 you can get a good 8 X10 photos Olympus , Fuji and Nikkon are good brands
