I'm still lugging my 35mm SLR with detachable flash that takes great pictures but is too bulky and big. We've tried a couple of different digital cameras. I wanted a very small one so DH did all the research and came up with a small Minolta that has high ratios and supposedly quick focus but I still have the same problems I've always experienced with digital cameras: 1) skin does not look real, 2) focus takes too long so there is a delay in when you want to take the pic and when the pic is actually taken and the moment is gone, and 3) not great with action shots - they tend to come out blurry. Kids + Disney = lots of skin, quick moments and action. Anyone have good experiences with digital cameras that actually work with these shots?

I have the Nikon Coolpix 4300. We are enjoying it.

Just remember............buy an extra battery and memory card!!! It has saved us many times while in WDW!!!! We can take LOTS of pictures and not worry about the battery running out or using up all our memory before we get home!!!!!

We have the Panasonic FZ3, it's larger than some of the other ones (we've had a Sony and a Nikon also) but the features make up for the size!

It has 12x optical zoom which was really important for me with kids, they're always doing something cute and I like to zoom in on them! It has image stabilization also, which is a must have with the extended zoom.

Focus there is a bit of a lag but it's not bad at all, I'm able to fire off a bunch of flash pics pretty fast.

It comes with a rechargeable battery, we're able to go a week or more before having to charge again and it takes about two hours to fully charge.

We bought a larger memory card (the one it comes with is a joke) at Costco for under $50. I can get 300 + pictures on the highest resolution and 2380 on the lowest.

We bought the camera at Circut City and LOVE it! Panasonic FZ3

Agree - love our Kodak EasyShare - have had it for a year with no problems.

have olympus 2100uz 2.1mp 10x optical zoom, basically a digital slr and we have an hp R707 5mp. We have large memory card and spare batteries for each. We usually talk along both cameras. I am amazed that the olympus will take much better quality pictures than the hp, guess it must be the lens quality of cameras. Make sure you have large or extra memory cards and batteries (never know when one will fail).

Gotta add another plug for the Kodak EasyShare! We have the DX7590 5.0mp, 10x optical zoom, charger dock, etc. LOVE IT! I am such a camera novice but every pic I take with this turns out great.

Honestly, the selling point for me on this camera was 2 things -- quick shutter speed, and 10x optical zoom. Not many digitals out there had a zoom like this, and it's SO much better than the 3x zoom you get with most cameras.

Thanks everyone! I think my prob with the digital was to try to go so small for convenience. They're just not ready for that yet but I'm looking forward to when they are. I think I'll go check out the Kodak Easyshare and see how it feels.
