digital camera questions.. re: memory chips

You should format your card in the camera every so often. If you do that you shouldn't have any problems. There is a command in one of your menus that you can format the card.

I wouldn't worry about getting "name brand" cards. The same 2 or 3 companies manufacture the cards for everyone else. I know Sandisk makes sony's cards.

While the manufacturer may be the same behind the scene the quailty of materials may not, so it does pay to do your homework. This is the foundation of the price variances. You also want to reference your cameras capability chart too before you make your purchase.

You guys are so smart!! We just got our first digital camera and have our Disney trip in 69 days! These have been great tips! I never even thought about losing a memory card or having one act up and losing ALL my Disney pics! We'll definately be getting another for backup! :earboy2:

I always bring my laptop with me and download my pictures at least once a day. That way, if I do have a card go, I don't lose several hundred pictures.

There may be features that are only available if you use the card made by your camera manufacturer. I have 4 or 5 cards for my camera. 2 are Olympus cards (the same brand as the camera). When I use those, I can do panoramic photos, but that function is not available when I use one of the other brand cards.

After reading this post I am so glad our digital camera does not use cards. It uses mini cd's.

I have one SD card in my pda and one in my camera. I really want a 1 gig card for mp3's!

Did anyone answer about getting photos transferred to a CD? I would also like to know this one!
