Will there be a way on the ship to download my digital memory card to a CD or a thumb drive. If I use a thumb drive, I would need to attach my camera to a ship computer and download to the thumb drive via USB port.

Thanks,
Steve

I hear Shutters will do it for you for a reasonable fee. I plan on bringing my laptop so I can load my pics and make back ups. I'm too much a control freak to trust someone to not "lose" my pictures. I'm sure it would be fine..... but, I'd rather do it myself....

Short of carrying your own laptop, Shutters will be your only option. The computers in the Lab do not have anyway to insert media for downloading information (or in this case, pictures). I, personally, think the fee at shutters is a little high, but you are on a cruise ship and a captive audience. I believe they charge about $10 per download (not per picture, but per memory card). Others will correct me if I am wrong about the fee.

I don't know if the same thing will apply on the cruise ship, but last week when I was at WDW, a man came into the photo store just inside the main entrance to Epcot. His memory card was full and he wanted his pictures burned onto a disk. The employee took the card, tried to download the pictures and then told the man that it wasn't a format that they could download from. The man wasn't very happy to hear that and ended up having to buy another memory card from the store just to be able to take more pictures. The new card was very expensive (I want to say it was about $80 for a 256 card...could be wrong though) and I'm sure the man wished that he had just bought and extra card before the trip.

Hi minnie,
We were at WDW for the 4th too. Where did you stay. We stayed at BCV. We had a great time.

Talk to you soon.

If you have an iPod, you can buy a media card reader for it and save the pics to the iPod's hard drive. Unless you have one of the new iPod photo ones you can't view your pics though.

Shutters charges $14.95 to download your pics... **WARNING** if you take movies using your camera, those will not be transfered to CD.. Not sure if you inform them of this prior if they can transfer it, but someone on DIS got burned by this!!!

Buy extra cards they are cheap locally and can be bought even cheaper online.

Leave the computer at home, it is just another distraction from a great vacation and extra weight to carry

I took my laptop so I could download my photos and was glad I did. I took several movies/videos with my dig. camera as well as a lot of still pictures and it was neat to be able to watch them on a bigger screen. Also, I downloaded each day's pictures in the evening, put them in a folder and it helped keep it all organized.

I have two 512 mg "xD" cards, as well as a couple of smaller ones. I can put 600+ pictures on each card, but taking video clips takes up a lot of the space. I took video of the countdown, ship's horn and dancing at the sailaway party (from deck 10) and have really enjoyed watching it since I got home.

Of course, I'm a bit of a media nut and don't have kids so I can make stuff like this part of my vacation fun! :teeth:

I have to jump in the download your own boat. I brought my laptop with me and it allowed me to take over 6 GB of pictures. We went in a large group so I was downloading pics for our entire family each night so they could take as many pictures as they wanted.

It also helped me see problems in the photos since the LCD on my camera is pretty small. I could download and view the photo full screen to see if I got the shot right and let me take additional shots if it didn't work out too well. I redid some character shots because of this. I also brought along some blank CDs in case we met someone and wanted to give them some pictures. Unfortunately, I think we had enough troubles managing our large family and didn't really get to know other families too well.

The laptop had secondary uses as well such as watching movies and going through the photos while waiting for a plane or shuttle. We got to the airport a little early on the last day and I ended up putting our photos in slideshow mode which attracted some interest from other travellers.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only laptop geek. I really wish they had in cabin on-line access. I need my e-mail..... I know.... I'm supposed to be on vacation, but, it is nice to feel in touch too!

We stayed at Saratoga Springs and loved it. We are DVC members, but SS is not our home resort. We decided about two months before the trip that we wanted to try to get a Grand Villa since my oldest daughter's boyfriend was going to be with us (I didn't want to have to share a bathroom with him or have him share one with the girls). The only place that had a GV available was SS.

Did you like the BCV? We stayed at the Yacht and Beach Club resorts several times before we bought into the DVC and always loved the resort. One of these days we will have to try BCV.

Yep,yep yep. You definitely need e-mail. How else can you "rub it in" to family and friends that you are on the ship, and quite frankly - they are not! :rotfl2:

Add us to the list of people who never leave for an overnight without the laptop. The huge advantage we had for downloading the pics onto the laptop was we could see right away if the pic was OK. Seeing the pics (as opposed to the 2.5" lcd screen) gave us the opportunity to see the big picture. Someone else took a pic of our DD with Belle, we were almost at the front of the line, and we didn't want to be late for dinner, so the family in back of us took the pic. DD joined us about 5 minutes later. With "fancy" Belle and our DD, the person took a picture of their faces, not a full length one showing the dresses. We bought the pose from shutters without even batting an eyelash. The rest of the character pics we took were great.

minnie,
Yes we haved stayed there before. I like staying there because it is so close to Epcot and MGM. My 3 girls love the pool there too.

We are already planning a cruise for next year. We are such Disney fanatics.

Our home resort is OKW.

did you go to Pleasure Island on Tuesday from 5-7. We went and we had a blast.

That is the first time that I can remember them having something like that.

If you haven't already done the cruise, it is wonderful! We have only done the 3 night, but I loved it.
What was going on at PI??? I had no idea that something special was happening over there.
BTW-our home resort is OKW too.

Hi Minnie,
We went on the 7 day Western last May and loved it. We are thinking about going around Thanksgiving of next year.

They had a member day at PI. They had games and then there was a trivia and hula hoop contest. It was fun. They also had door prizes. They also gave us coupons for free ice cream, cotton candy and popcorn. There was also lemonade.
