Does anyone know approximately how many pictures you can store on a 256 card? Camera is 2.1mp

Thanks in advance!

A Whole Heck Of Alot

Just Kiddng - My 128 Card holds about 150 photos at a High Resolution and I have a 3.2 Cam.

Check what resolution you are using that will depend on the amount as well but i would guess atleast 300.

Many cams will also tell you when you have the card in and have selected the res how many more phots will fit.

It will vary depending on your camera and the settings. At full resolution I'd think you should get about 200-300 in full-res/uncompressed format. Lots of cameras have adjustable settings; my 2mp Canon PowerShot s200 has 3 resolutions; 1600x1200, 1024x768, and 648x480. In addition I have 3 choices for compression (more compression = more grainy but smaller size). So there are a whole bunch of possible answers.

For my camera, a 1600x1200 uncompressed image is about 1MB, so you could get 250 or so on your card. Drop the resolution down or increase compression and those numbers will go up.

Hope this helps!

My card is a 256 and it's supposed to store 400 - I have a Cannon powershot.

I hope this helps!

The manual of your camera should have a table listing picture capacity for different size memory cards at different resolutions. If you don't have the actual manual you should be able to find it online on the manufacturer's web site.

If you are new to digitial photos beware...you will take many more than you ever thought. I used to take an average of 2-3 rolls per trip. Now in 5 days it is not uncommon for me to take 125-200 pictures.

Pfffft! That's nothing. On an 8 day WDW/US vacation I took over 1000 digital pictures.

On my 2.1 Olympus, I average about 100 pictures on a 128 meg card.

The type of scene you're taking a picture of can have a significant impact on the number of pictures that can fit on the card. For example, you could take hundreds of picture of a night time sky because most of the scene is black. Normal scenes like outdoor daylight shots with a lot of varying amounts of dark and light areas will take up the most room on the card.

Just make sure you set your camera to the best picture quality setting. You can always make the images smaller for email and such (web pages) but you will not get the best prints (if that's in your plans) if you set the camera to a lower quality setting just to get more pics on your card.

I would highly recommend getting at least one more 256 meg card. Then scan through the pics at the end of the day and delete the losers.

We filled a card with 441 pictures and a few AVIs (med resolution,
max size) 2 MP cannon Elph
