Not sure if this is the correct area for this thread, but here it goes.

We are going to Disney World at the end of January, first one week at CBR and then the 7 day Eastern Cruise.

My dh is worried about his ability to take enough pictures with his digital camera and is wondering if and where at Walt Disney World and perhaps on the cruise there is a place in which we or they will download your memory card to a CD.

If there is no place that does this, how many memory cards should we take. We have two girls- age 51/2 and 21 months (at the time of the trip). This is dh and baby's first trip to WDW. My dd and I went last January for a week.

Anyhow, hope someone can help.

Thanks.:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

We spent 10 days at Disney in April. We had a 256MB card, took 317 pictures, and did not fill the card. We also had 2 waterproof box cameras for the pool and waterpark.

We had a 128MB card just in case we needed it.

I would think that for the 14 days you would want between 256 and 512 of total storage. This will depend on the resolution of the pictures and how many you take.

The Kodak shop in the Magic Kingdom and somewhere in Epcot
can download onto a CD but you will pay Disney prices for the service. Burning out own CDs at home costs about $1.00.

We took a picture each time our DD met a character or obtained an autograph (she filled all the pages back and front). These in a digital scrap book corresponding to autographs is very special.

I have a 512 compact flash card and took approx 460 photos during our 7 day stay ... I wished I had an extra card as I didn't take as many "scenery" photos as I would have liked to. So I'll be getting another 512 card for next summer's cruise ... I want to be able to take photos w/o worrying about whether or not I have the space on my card, LOL!

So, I guess it really depends on how many photos you're planning to take (some people take tons, others not many) ... the size of your card and how many photos you can store on the card.

Cheryl

It depends on your camera how many photos will fit on a card.

I have read that you can get a CD made at the Kodak camera centers for a price of course (I think it was under $15) but it does take a little while so you'll need at least 2 cards-1 to use while the other is in the shop. Don't know about the cruise.

Last year I took about 250 photos on just 3 days in the parks with my DD.

I now have a digital camera and four 128MB cards-75 photos each for me-300 photots so I guess I'll have to buy more cards for my 6 day trip in Jan with DD and first trip for DS and new DD. I too would like to take lots more scenery/park detail photos. I did read here that an advantage of smaller cards was that you could leave some back at the hotel so if you lost your camera you wouldn't loose all your photos.

There are portable hard drives that you can buy to download your photos onto but they are very expensive.

If you have a camara that you are able to change the pixels (the quality of the picture). The higer the pixel the less pictures the memory card will hold. I always use my camara at the highest possible pixel for really clear, crsip, bright photos.

I would take at least 2- 256MB cards and heres why.....
......In another thread that was started last week a DISer was very upset because that had only taken one (I believe small) memory card to WDW, used the Kodiak machine in Town Hall, burned a disk (or so they thought), reformatted their card and started taking new pictures.

Can we guess what happened?

They got home and the CD was empty.....blank.......nothing.......:(

Lesson learned (through someone else):
Never trust a machine, trust yourself, buy the extra card(s).
I personally like Walmart..great prices.

BTY...I really felt sorry for the other Dis member who lost their pictures. It sounded like this was a trip they had planned along time for and won't be doing again soon.

depends on if your shutter happy or not. I have 3 cards. which hold a total of 312 photos @ 3.3 megapixels. I also bring my laptop so I can download the images when needed and upload the ones I want a hard copy of to my photo service right away.
FYI smart media cards will go the the wash and still work. We found out this one after the last trip my CRT pictures were on my 128 mb card that I left in my shirt pocket and went through the washer and dryer and still worked fine. I did this once with a CF card and it was ruined. I would bring the laptop if you have one we use it for watching DVD's on the flight down as well

I'd suggest multiple smaller cards. We lost a good number of pictures when our large CF card decided to die. Luckily we had a smaller card 128 Mb. And I bought an emergency card at the Magic Kingdom (Ouch). The CD burning is expensive, and time consuming. I was told to drop off the CF and come back at the end of day to pick it and my CD up. It wasn't worth the lost opportunities.

I agree with goofmeister. have smaller cards and more of them.
That way if you have a problem with one card not all your pictures are lost. There is some good software out there if your cards does die you can still get your photo's off the card.I have used this software already to get picture's I've lost.
