digital camera advice

I am looking at Canon powershot A700,A620, S2 IS, Olympus sp500. Panasonic z27 ( i think, it's 6 mp, 10x optical zoom) I want to stay around $400 total( so less if i need to get lens like with the canon 7 &6) i like the creative features but also want to have simplicity when i want it....anyone have any they love or hate? basically i want 5 or more mp with either 4x optical zoom and exchange able lens or preferably better optical zoom.

also, how many pictures do you usually take at Disney and how to you handle downloading them? do you email them home, get a cd made there, just get a bunch of memory card? i notice some have like an instant share type feature but not sure how that works( we have dsl so speed is ok usually)

We love our Canons. Very easy to use. We've never been disappointed with the photos we've taken.

I have a Kodak Easyshare Z7590 that I absolutely LOVE. It has 5MP and a 10x optical zoom. You can add lenses to it. It has a lot of manual features as well as simple, point and shoot features. I got mine from beachcamera (online) for around $250 (brand new, not reconditioned). Have seen them elsewhere for up too $399.

We do not have one of those cameras, we have the Kodax 6490, but we take a laptop and download our pics at night. If we didn't do that, I guess I would just get a couple of cards that could handle enough shots.

I like it, it is a 6.1mp and takes video. I got it at walmart on line for $200. It came with the docking thing to hook it to the comp and charge it on. I am going to buy anoughter batterie and a 1 or 2 gig card before we go, they have become so cheep now. Good luck.

I have a Canon S1 IS. I LOVE IT.... I usually bring my laptop and download every night. I take about 300-400 pics everyday. I have a 256M, (2) 64M, and 1 32M (Never use).

Before this next trip next month, I plan to purchase another memory card. Not sure what size but just to have another back up.

The camera takes magnificent pictures! I have several posted here on the DIS. I like the features and the zoom is amazing! Gets you up close and personal. I must admit, I was looking at cameras yesterday in Wally World and didn't find one with near as good a zoom as mine. Mine is 3.2X digital and 10X Optical.

I love the special features as well. The action setting is a must for baseball games, Spectromagic and shows and the image stabilization is perfect. I have yet to master fireworks but I will!

I vote for the newer model S2 IS strictly because I love my earlier model.

You can take your digital storage media to the Camera shop at Epcot and they will burn your photos on a CD for you. I think the charge is $12.99 or so.

We recently bought the Canon 620 and love it. It is 7.1 megapixels and really does a great job. It does a short video and also has a "fireworks mode". We are very pleased.

When I went to Disney I took 1000+ pictures. My dad had his laptop with him so I was able to dump the photos on to there. If you do not have a lap top, you could always go to Wal-Mart and or Sam's Club (there is one in Kissimee (sp?) right across from Medivel Times.

Foe which camera to go with, I like the Olympus SP500. We sell it at the Sam's Club that I work at and overall it has great quality. I was using it the other day to take pictures of the kids with the Easter bunny, and the colors were perfect, and it did a great job shooting in the bad lighting (asjusted the shutter speed and exposure settingsa manually). We sell it for $341. Great buy.

As for memory cards, Sam's sells the 1GB XD card for the SP500 for only $53. Great buy! Becuase the SP500 is 6mp, this card would hold, at the highest quality, about 300-400 pictures.

I love my Canon A620. It takes beautiful pictures and is simple to use if I want it to be but is also powerful enough for me to be able to play with it as well.

thanks for the info...do you find the lag to be long between pics with this...i love the feel of the olympus( have been running from store to store and annoying all the camera sales people ) and all the scene modes but some reviews said the xd cards aren't very fast . i am heading over to the photo board which i didn't know existed via your link right now

Actually, the Sony is excellent outdoors, but awful indoors. It is either over-exposed, under-exposed, or blurry. It wants to flash when not needed. If you override the flash, you get blur.

You will find that almost all digital cameras will take great our door shots; it are the ones indoors that get tricky.

I use a fuji camera, which also uses the XD card, and I do not notice much lag at all. The XD cards are pretty quick, especially if you are using the newer ones. Also, olympus cameras has a built in memory cache that will allow you to take photos while the other photos are still being saved to the card. Next time you use it, look at the bottom right hand side of the screen. When you take a picture you will see a meter fill up with green. You can continue to take pictures until the green meter is filled up; then you have to wait til some of the cache is cleared up. The higher resolution you are shooting at, the quicker it is to fill up the cache. Other ways to speed up shooting times are turn off the post view and turn off the flash when it is not needed.
