Hi everyone just wanted you all to see something that I arranged for Paul to have as part of our First Wedding Anniversary (paper) :

We had Randy Chapman as our Wedding Photographer and I wouldn't take anything away from him on the amazing job that he did but what I loved about Randy is that he doesn't claim to be anything more than a wedding photographer. I saw a lot of photographers out there who also offered a Digital Album service and I was interested to know whether or not some of them did the work themselves or not. Indeed this is a service that Randy is offering but I don't believe he is doing the work himself but my understanding was it would cost about another $1400 for a Digital Album with Randy and that cost was a little too high for me.

Turns out though that my friend's husband decided to go into business and produce these albums at a fraction of the cost. He is a television animator and graphics professional and qualified in the art of computer animation and production. So more than qualified to take on this kind of business unlike some other photographers out there

So without further ado here is the work that he did - some of Randy's photos were lightened or cropped.

Awww I'm so glad that you all like it.

My friend's husband is called Sam Taylor and I emailed him asking him for his service offerings so that I could post here and here is his reply to me:

I crop, straighten, color correct, and generally fix any photos that need it. I do not mark up the cost of having the books printed. I charge for the design of the albums, and charge the actual cost price to have the books printed at a specialty printer.

Any 12"x12" album can be made into an 8x8 album at no charge. Most people have so far ordered a 12"x12" album for themselves and a couple of 8x8 albums for family. Some also just order one leather 8x8 and a couple of canvas covered 8x8 albums for family. I will order any additional copies of your album for you whenever you like. The cost or additional albums is listed below. If additional albums are ordered at a different time then the initial order I will charge and additional $25 dollars for shipping.

These albums are meant to be Fine Art Coffee Table albums that are accessible to anyone. The design is top quality and the print quality is the best that I have seen in any digital album (about 3 times better than Shutterfly or Ofoto). Although the initial design and album fee is by no means inexpensive, it is lower than what most other professional photographers (who are almost never designers themselves) are charging. Because I do not mark up the cost to print the albums, additional copies are exceedingly affordable.

All albums include a premium quality end sheet made from crushed flower paper imported from Thailand, a crisp white satin moire, or a rich black satin moire. All albums also include up to two lines of text foil stamped into the cover of the album.

12x12 Square up to 40 printed sides (20 pages)
$999 ($2.50 for each additional printed side)
Each additional identical book (if ordered at the same time): $150

8x8 Square up to 40 printed sides (20 pages)
$950 ($1.00 for each additional printed side)
Each additional identical book (if ordered at the same time): $85

Leather Albums:

12x12 Square up to 40 printed sides (20 pages)
$1099($2.50 for each additional printed side)
Each additional identical book (if ordered at the same time): $225

8x8 Square up to 40 printed sides (20 pages)
$999 ($1.00 for each additional printed side)

I personally went for the linen (which came in a pink cover yay) 8x8 and I should have it in my hot little hands by Wednesday next week - I sooo cannot wait!! I would deffo have to say that Sam was by far the cheapes priced album I had come across with work undertaken by a qualified professional.

Wow Sam that is BEAUTIFUL! I saw a couple of these at a bridal fair I went to - I was going to try and make one myself as I think I can handle the images - and then get it printed into a book at a printers. They're so much nicer than just a straight album of photos and there's no need to print standard 6x4s when they're all digital.

PS - That photo of you kissing mickey's nose is adorable - and makes me want him at my wedding :0)

I just went into Thomson to pay off my holiday and picked up a flyer for this service: http://www.mythomsonphotos.co.uk/

You can download some software and then arrange all of your photos - wedding or otherwise - across as many pages as you need then submit them online and the company digitally print and bind your album for you!
For £20 or about $40 (they post overseas) you can have upto 360 photos across 40 pages...

Think I might give this a go when we get back from our trip...

Oh Sam!! That is just gorgeous!!

We are planning a Castaway Cay wedding, but DCL doesn't offer digital photography. This will be perfect. I definitely want Sam's info PLEASE!!

In what format did you provide your photos to Sam? Did you send him your Ofoto links? What if you only have prints? Can he scan them and work from those?

What was the timeframe between when you sent him the photos and when you received the finished product? Did you have say in which photos were chosen and the layouts (ie. did he send you a mock up for your approval before printing)?

Rosie that Thompson idea looks good and certainly something more UK photo companies should offer - in the US Ofoto, shutterfly, mypublisher are already offering this service but I have to say I'd be interested in knowing what the quality will be like where Thompson are concerned, but on screen they look great.

The quality was one thing I did wonder about - but then for 20 pounds if it turns out rotten it's not a lot of money lost! I'll give it a go in December and let you all know
