I'm very new at this DVC thing and I was hoping someone could help me - though I'm sure the question may have been asked before! My husband, father and I recently bought a 200 BLT contract with a Feb. UY. This isn't the best UY for us as we travel in Nov., Dec. or Jan. (our guide didn't tell us we could have a different UY though we told him when we would be traveling). Now I'm looking at resales as I know I can't add on through Disney with a different UY (200 points isn't enough for all of us to go on trips each year :rotfl:). Has anyone ever purchase multiply contracts with different UY? How does it work with Disney? Would there be anything else I need to know?
Thank you!!

If you buy a different use year, you will have a separate master contract. Points from the two contracts can be used for the same trip, but NOT FOR THE SAME NIGHT"S STAY. You get one transfer per year (in or out) per contract, so you would have to choose wisely as to when you would want to use that transfer.

You can buy a new master contract through Disney with a different UY, but not an add on.

IMHO having multiple UYs is a pain, and we have two! More to keep track of and monitor, and a greater chance of MS making a mistake. Once the market improves, we will be selling our April contracts.

Thank you for your replys! My thought was to use them as two separate contracts - the new one basically for my husband and I and the other for when my father wants to go (either with us or by himself). For instance, he is hoping to go later this year without us and stay at BLT and then go with us Nov. or Jan. of 2010. Doing it this way makes it so we can't go as often as I'd like hence the need for two contracts. I just don't want to have to buy the minimum 160 points from Disney again or I would go through them to buy a new contract.

Another point to note is that if you buy a contract for another DVC resort (regardless of whether it is the same or a different use year) then you cannot mix points at 11 months out to reserve at one resort. Only BLT points can be used to reserve at 11 months out at BLT. Thus, if you buy, for example, OKW points, those can be used at BLT only beginning seven months out.

Have you closed the contract yet? If not, you can ask for a different UY since changes can be made as long as you have not closed.

If you really want to add more points and have a different UY, I would suggest you contact your guide and talk to him. I would explain that what you have is not ideal and that you really want points that work better for you.

I know that many have posted that you must buy the minimum of 160, but there have been a few posts in the last few days where new buyers have bought BLT points and gotten them in smaller contracts, without the first one being 160. I think there was one buyer who bought 270 points and the biggest contract he was doing was 100 points.

So, obviously, there may be some different things being approved now that have not been in the past.

If you end up with different UY's, you will not be able to combine the points, even if they are the same resort, for a single night stay without doing a member transfer. You will end up with two member #'s as well.

Good luck!!!

:sad1:Unfortunately we've already closed on the contract (I think it actually closed before the closing date on the paperwork but I can't remember!). I'm leaning towards buying a 100ish point contract with a Sept. or Oct. UY and then just using the contracts completely seperate from the other. I just have to convice my husband that we need to go to Disney more than once every two years!!! Hopefully with Southwest going into Boston the flights will be less expensive ;)
