"different" things to do in WDW..

I know I'm planning way to much in advance, but we're going to WDW in May 2006. DH and I will be staying at OKW with my parents. DH has had "enough" of Disney (I know, I can't understand this myself), and isn't too excited about going. He likes more "relaxing" vacations, and we all know that we need a vacation after our WDW vacation sometimes with all the running around!

I already told him that we'll only get a 4 day pass this time, and spend a day at Blizzard Beach and another at Universal/IOA (He enjoyed those places). I also promised a few nights at Pleasure Island and Jellyrolls. We had a great time at Jellyrolls during our last trip in March, but we ended up leaving early b/c it was our last night and we were all exhausted. He also wants to spend some more time by the pool and maybe playing a game of golf, which is fine with me (he can play golf while my mom and I go shopping!)

Can anyone suggest some other things to do? I personally love WDW, and can't go enough. I've read some posts on here about Wishes cruises? And a crazy boat ride out of the Boardwalk resort? How do I get more information and/or book something like this?

I really appreciate your help, DH works so hard and deserves a fun vacation. Thanks in advance!!

Check out Deb Will's "Beyond the Parks" section of her site. It has information on everything from nightlife to tours, to sporting activities:

Some of my favorites are visiting AKL, the carriage ride at Port Orleans Riverside, the river cruise from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney, and Cirque du Soleil.

First of all, there's no such thing as planning too early! :)

I know this is out on a limb, but how about a 3 or 4 night DCL cruise after your trip? That is the PERFECT vacation after a vacation! Then you can wear yourself out all you want at the World, and then spend 3 days laying around, soaking up the sun, sand and the sea.

Since that's probably not an option (unless you have a big budget, in which case, can I come, too?) there are resorts that I could literally spend all day hanging out at. AKL and WL both have tours of the resorts available, and both have hidden mickey lists. Both of those (plus the Poly) are awesome for just hanging around, soaking up the ambiance.

Outside of the parks, there's always Downtown Disney, mini-golf, the hayride or horseback rides at Fort Wilderness (and the campfire movie thing there).

You know, I think this just inspired me to research and write a guidebook of what to do at Disney without setting foot in the parks :)

Sounds like he's told you what he'd like:

"He also wants to spend some more time by the pool and maybe playing a game of golf............. "

OKW is an excellent resort for rest, relaxation, and peacefulness.

DH and I were in WDW in May - no kids, just us. We also wanted to try some "new" Disney things. I booked a Wishes cruise (loved it), did the Segway Experience (one hour instruction class - no Epcot portion),played mini-golf, and also went on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. When we go back - not sure when - he has expressed interest in the Richard Petty Driving Experience and also a few rounds of golf. The other wonderful part of a "just the two of us" trip, we could stop and enjoy the parks from a new perspective. No rushing from ride to ride, we watched the shows in Epcot and even made dinner reservations at the Prime Time Cafe in MGM. Definitely check out Allears.net for all kinds of things to try. Have a wonderful trip!!

Cirque du Soleil is one of our favorites and it doesn't have any of the Disney thing going on.

My husband enjoys going to World Showcase in Epcot in the evenings. Takes in all the movies, etc at the different countries and we have a relaxing dinner.

OKW is pretty quiet.

I wonder if he wants to be like that guy in the DCL commercial-"I've got lots to do!", then you'd see him sleeping everywhere-DH always says, "Now, that's my idea of a vacation!"

We're going for the first time alone (since it's a honeymoon) in 14 years!!
We decided to try all new things. We're eating mostly at restaurants we've never been to before. Let him pick a few restaurants to try.
We're doing the trail ride and the Backstage Magic Tour (maybe this will renew his interest in some Disney Magic). We're hitting the Adventurer's Club and Jelly Rolls. Would he like the ESPN Club? OKW is great if he wants to golf since it sits right on a course.
We had planned on staying out of the parks altogether but we've given in. Can't help it!! We're going to do the slow tour of the World Showcase.
Most of all we're trying for a nice RELAXING vacation for once. We're definitely going to need it.

Forgot to second the Richard Petty Driving Experience. FI did this several years ago and absolutely loved it.

THank you so much for all the input. I'm excited about arranging a tour, I think we will all enjoy the Keys to the Kingdom. And possibly a Wishes cruise also. I didn't realize that OKW was on a gold course, he'll be in heaven! I'm really hoping he has a good time:-)

Thanks again... now I just have to wait-- b/c I can't book until 3 months prior, right? That means I have to wait until February? That sucks!!!

Rent a boat at OKW. It's lots of fun exploring some of the other resorts and seeing DTD. A family MUST for us!

I think it's the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course that runs through part of the resort. (I'm not the golfer in the family) You can request a room with a course view. We've watched the guys golf from our patio before. You can't see the course from all buildings though.

Please don't laugh...Did you think about doing the Medevil Times in Kissimmee? My Dad, Mom and DH thought it was going to be a horrible evening and went to pacify me....They are already asking if we can do it again this year. There are some decent dinner shows,,,you may want to give them a shot.

There is also the Parasailing on 7 Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, Renting Water Mice to zip around either 7 Seas or Downtown Disney...Disney Quest was fun for a couple hours during the evening. (What guy doesn't like his Sony Playstation?)

You could check to see if any concerts are going on over at the Hard Rock...Jimmy Buffet's is always fun at night too...they usually have a house band playing JB's cover tunes.

How about a "day at the beach" over at Discovery Cove...if you don't swim with the dolphins, it's pretty affordable and the snorkeling environments are amazing.
