different esta numbers

can someone please put my mind at rest as im worrying over esta numbers, i filled in all our esta forms for all six of us and my o/h and the kids all start with 2 numbers ie:61 but mine starts with a number and a letter ie:6b so now this gets my paranoid brain thinking does this mean they will pick up on this at border control? im always nervous when we go through border control and i would hate to be singled out. so do all your families esta numbers start the same or are they different like ours?

sorry to sound like a mad woman but im always worrying over something

I wouldn't worry . I've just looked at my esta for last Oct and mine and one of my DD starts two letters and then a number , my DH doesn't have a number till about the 8 space and my other DD has 2 letters then a number. We all got through immigration - no problem.
Its all very random.

ESTA uses a combination of letter and numbers or all numbers and as the PP said, it is very random. Two people applying at the same time don't get anything near consecutive nos. I expect this has something to do with the security system. At the end of the day, each person's details are linked to their own number. I printed mine out last year to take to the airport with similar concerns as you have about mine and DDs very different nos - no hassles and nobody even asked for them! We just went through as usual.
