Different confirmation numbers on Southwest

So a few days ago, I booked two round trip tickets on Southwest using points. For some reason, Southwest assigned me and my son two different confirmation numbers on the way down to MCO but we both have the same confirmation number on the way back. It was all purchased at once so I was kind of confused as to why they did that. Has anyone else had this happened before?? I think I remember them saying right after I booked that it was due to a "next generation booking system" or something but I don't know.

Yup, always get separate confirmation numbers when using points

Oh okay then. We did get the same number for the way back though which is why I was confused but whatever. Not really a big deal at all :) Thanks!

That is very odd. When I book roundtrip using points, DH gets one confirmation number for his flights down and back, and I get my own confirmation number for my flights down and back. So the entire roundtrip has one confirmation number, but DH and I get our own number, not one number covering both of us. I've never had what you describe happen to us where we shared the same confirmation number unless I booked with cash.

Weird! Yeah, I just went to double check and we definitely have the same confirmation number for the trip back. Even when I go into "My Trips", it shows 3 separate reservations. Two separates for the trip down and just one for the way back (I made sure both of our names are on the ticket for the way back and they are). Should I call to make sure everything is okay?

If it shows accurate online, I wouldn't worry.

FYI - Unless you booked EBCI, you will need to check in both confirmations separately to be assigned a boarding group. You may want to checkin on your phone for yourself while checking your son in on your computer to stay close in the boarding groups. However, even with EBCI you are not guaranteed to be in the same group but you should be pretty close and can just board together on the later number.

That's exactly what I did. I bought EBCI for the first flight to up our chances of being close together and so I wouldn't have to worry about checking us both in separately. He is only 3 so we would get family boarding anyway but I bought the EBCI just in case.
