differences on longer cruises?

I am not having any luck with the search option, so thought I would post my question:
We are doing a 14 night cruise EBPC 2017. We have done 5 previously with DCL so familiar with routine for 5 and 7 night cruises, but I know there are differences for 7 night cruises so I was wondering what the differences are for 14 night cruises . . .

TIA for your time :)

I've done the EBTA and WBPC. We love the longer cruises. Will be doing the WBPC again in 2017. In my experience, the longer cruises end up doing things that the shorter cruises don't to keep things interesting. You don't get bored because things start repeating. I believe the PC cruises might be the only ones that do the cruise director morning show (which we loved and I have to credit Flossbolna for mentioning). Perhaps I miss them on the shorter cruises because we're trying to fit in other things, but I've experienced more tastings, cooking classes, etc on the longer cruises.

Yay!!! A convert!!! I am so happy that someone else enjoyed them!!

OP, besides the added entertainment, I think the longer cruises also differ in atmosphere due to a few factors: more sea days, more seasoned cruisers, especially far more adults (we thought the dining rooms were the noisiest on our PC cruise due to them being filled with adults all chatting at the same time), crowded adult pool, empty family pool, you get to know people better (fellow cruisers as well as CMs), a general air of excitement among the crew as those are cruises for them that don't follow their standard pattern.

The cruise director morning show is live with audience on PC and TA cruises. I never miss it!

I absolutely adore the longer cruises. The differences depend on the cruise - as in Hawaiian or Panama Canal. WE have had them grill food on the food deck, to champagne during the Panama Canal crossing. I like the laid back vibe and the best part is at day 7..you don't have to get off and have 7 more days to explore, relax and enjoy!!

There is a trip report that was just finished from the WBPC cruise just prior to the Wonder going to dry dock. All of the Navigators are provided along with a great report on what all was going on. Arielsmomma I think is who wrote the report. It is awesome. We are going next October and this report made me so excited to experience it.

We are avid Shutters picture takers. One of the differences I heard about was that on longer cruises they have the character come out in different duos instead of individually. And they come out in different outfits too.

We have a group for this cruise, please join us. http://www.disboards.com/threads/october-27-2017-wonder-ebpc.3514038/
Most of our cruises are over 7 days in fact we took a 7 day in 2015 to go on the Fantasy and felt it was too short. DH and I sailed on the first WPC in 2005 and we were hooked on the longer cruises. Really get to know the crew how are all great but this is a great part of the trip. Lots of time to relax.

I've done several 14 day cruises and the major difference between the longer verses the shorter cruises to me is the entertainment. In addition to the wonderful shows that DCL performs you will also get a mix of entertainers like comedians, magicians, singers, etc. In addition to that DCL usually offers various tours. This can range from kitchen, backstage and even some of the kid areas. I've also experienced some special movie pairing such Saving Mr. Banks followed by Mary Poppins. They is also plenty of other trivia games going on, character meets and other miscellaneous things to do. Enjoy!!!

I would love to go on a cruise longer than 7 nights. 7 nights is the min. for us.
Kind of hard to do that though with school-age kids. I have no problem pulling them out of school for a few days but 2 weeks.... I don't know.
It does sound so nice though! I'm sure after 14 days they would have to drag me off the ship. Like physically remove me ;)

Love the longer cruises. Differences would be more themed menus, extra shows -- maybe even including a crew talent show which we've seen twice on the longer cruises -- more tours and/or lectures/classes and the best of all......extra sea days!

I know! I would love to do the WBPC in 2018, but I can't be out of school for 2 weeks and neither can my daughter. I really wish they would do those cruises during a non-school time.

Yes -- the first one we did in 2005 was in August -- and it was wonderful. But I will say that, unfortunately, I have never seen so many bored kids and teenagers -- laying around the steps and lounges and complaining about how they wish they'd never come :sad2: I thinking Disney started doing them earlier and later in the seasons to accommodate the repositioning now of the Wonder.

What is this Cruise Director Morning show you speak of? I haven't heard of it before, is it in a specific space on the ship, do you have to make reservations or is open to all passengers? I'm intrigued!

On the longer cruises, on every sea day they have this morning show, on the Wonder it was in Studio Sea (now D Lounge) and anyone can attend. It is the cruise director and the assistant cruise director talking about the events on the cruise, what is going to happen during the day etc. Kind of like a morning show on TV. They also have guests highlighting the entertainment and such. They were also doing quizzes where you could win prizes, either if you were in the audience or if you called into the show. They film it and broadcast it and then have it on constant repeat on one of the TV channels for the rest of the day. I always picked up a hot drink from the drinks station and loved it as a start into the morning. And it was great to get so much background info on what certain events were about.

I think they now have something similar on the Fantasy, at least I saw that in recent navigators. There you cannot attend the filming it seems, but it is on TV.

Definitely sounds like something I would like to check into! Great way to spend the morning and get the day off to a good start! Thanks for the info!
