We are a family of 5 adults and one infant that have 2 room ressies at YC in Jan. We are looking to possibly transfer to 2br villa at BW. Is there any difference in service (housekeeping) by reserving through disney vs renting points??

Cash reservations through Disney CRO at the DVC properties receive all the same services that you would get with any Disney resort reservation, including daily Mousekeeping.

If you are renting points, you only get Mousekeeping on the 4th and 8th days (or is it 4 and 7) of your stay. One is called trash/towel service, and the other is a full cleaning.

Four and eight, I think. Four is trash & towel service; eight is full cleaning.

Interestingly, it's apparently based on the Guest arrival and not the nights in a given room (if that makes sense). I checked in to OKW on a Sunday, and had to change rooms Monday. Since I was leaving Thursday, I didn't expect ANY housekeeping - but I got back to my unit Wednesday night, and - new towels/no trash!

If your stay is 8 days or longer you get a full cleaning on day 4 and trash and towel on day 8.

If you stay less than 8 days, you will get trash and towel only on day 4.

The above is if you rent DVC points from a member.

If you reserve a DVC villa through Disney, like the previous poster mentioned, you will receive the same cleaning schedule as you would a regular non DVC room.

If you stay 4-7 night, you'll get your towels replaced and trash removed on day 4. If you stay 8 nights or more, you'll get a full cleaning on day 4 and trash removed and towels replaced on day 8. Then the cycle repeats for longer stays on points.

If you book direct from Disney through CRO, you get daily full cleaning.

You can request more frequent cleaning, but it will cost a pretty penny.

Depending on when you want to rent a reservation in Jan, you may be too late already. Booking until about the middle of the month is pretty tight right now. Most members make their reservation from 7 to 11 months out.

There are some very important differences between renting a reservation from a DVC member and booking through Disney, such as:

1. Renting from a member will likely be MUCH cheaper.

2. If you rent from a member, you'll have no control over the reservation. The member owns the reservation until you check in. DVC Member Services will not speak with you, even to confirm that there is a reservation in your name.

3. It's best to consider a DVC rental a final transaction. Because of restrictions the member may have in cancelling or rescheduling the reservation, most members who rent have a no-cancellations, no-changes policy.

DVCMike has an excellent thread on things to know when you're considering a rental. Hopefully, he'll be along soon to post the link. Be sure to read all the stickies on the DVC Rent/Trade board as well.

Thanks for all the replies. I will not be renting points, I will be reserving directly through Disney. I was looking at the 2 BR at BCV but they are gone for our time frame so I was looking at BWV since they do have availability (for now) for the time we want. It was the housekeeping that I was not sure about.

if you rent from Disney you get the full housekeeping.

there is only 2-bedroom lock out at BWV - no dedicated.

so you will get a king bed in the master, queen sleeper sofa in the livingroom, in the second bedroom (studio) - queen bed and double sleeper sofa.

if you are putting children in that second bedroom - it is a studio with a door to the outside hall way. so would bring one of those locks so the kids can't get out without you knowing it.

Do they pick up old towels daily & bring you clean ones?

if you rent from Disney (CRO) yes

if you rent from a DVC member no.

there is a washer/dryer in the 1-bedroom and up.

the studios have access to a free laundry mat - so bring your own detergent and fabric softenor.

Spicey, are you really telling me that because I rented from an owner they will not be bringing me towels daily? They expect me to go do laundry daily to wash towels? I have a feeling I'm going to be having a few words with management when I get there.

Spicey is correct.

DVC is a timeshare, and virtually all timeshares have limited housekeeping. Theyr'e meant to be a home-away-from-home sort of thing.

At DVC, Member dues pay for all services, including housekeeping. So, DVC has a pay-as-you-go housekeeping service, meaning that those members who want daily housekeeping can pay for it, and those of us who don't want daily housekeeping don't have to pay.

If you want fresh towels daily, I believe a towel pack costs $6.

I don't need housekeeping because I'm a neat freak anyway. To have to pay for towels daily might be the most rediculous thing I have ever heard of. What would they like me to do with my trash bags? Should I just leave them outside the door, or are they going to sit there all week.

I just spent a week at a Wyndham timeshare in Arizona. There they had no housekeeping at all - no new towels, no trash pickup, etc. This is pretty standard at a timeshare.

I believe at Disney you could pay for daily housekeeping if you really want it.

When you rent from a member you are treated the same as the member. Members do not get daily housekeeping, and the person you rented from should have told you that. The management at the resort has no control over your decision to not book a room from Disney.

As to garbage, yes, you are responsible for bagging it up and taking it to the Trash room. Do not leave them outside the door, as they will not be picked up and pretty soon you are going to have bugs in your room.

You can pay for Daily housekeeping and extra towels if you want to.

It's always good to get all information about what you are getting when you make a reservation through a member. Like Lynne said, DVC is a timeshare and the members pay annual member fees for things like linens, cleaning, maintenance, etc. DVC has decided that members (and members agree with this) will get clean towels every four days. So when you check in is day one. Day four you will get clean towels and your trash will be removed. You can take your trash to the trash room if your trash can fills up before day 4. They will not be changing your bed linens or making the beds either, except for full cleaning days.

If you are staying 8 nights or more, you will get a full cleaning on day 4.

If you want clean towels every day, you can pay to have your towels replaced and your trash removed every day. Members have decided it's not that important to them for daily clean towels and fees can also be kept lower by not replacing towels daily. I'm not sure what it costs for daily towel and trash service, but it's somewhere around $10-15 a day for a one or two bedroom. ChuckS has a list that he posts on extra services you can request for a cost. The extra towel pack is a one time deal for 4 extra bath towels, not for daily towel and trash service.

Management will have nothing to say to you other than that's the way that DVC operates. So save your lecture to management.

Next time, pay the full price and get your daily full cleaning.

That's interesting because I've never stayed at a timeshare that didn't give you towels dialy or take out the garbage. I can understand a full cleaning which I already said I didn't need, but no towels or garbage service is rediculous. Also, don't worry Deb, you might not have luck with talking with management, but I'm sure I won't have a problem.

It's ridiculous that you think I don't have any luck talking to management. I don't have any problem contacting maintenance or housekeeping with appropriate issues. I don't even have a problem contacting DVC when I have a concern with a change in policy. What you are thinking of doing is totally inappropriate because you failed to get the full information. Once you got the full information, you still don't like the answer and think you can whine to management about a policy that has been in place since 1991 when DVC was started.

If you want fresh towels daily, you will have to pay for them. That's the way it is. If you don't like that, contact the member you rented from and ask to be released from your rental obligations. Then make a reservation directly from Disney CRO for the same space. Then you will get clean towels daily.

I don't think it's a matter of not getting all the information. I just can't see even wondering or not whether the place I'm staying at will be providing me with fresh towels daily. It amazes me that people's love for Disney or blind loyalty, means Disney is always right. This will be my 3rd trip to Disney in the past 18 months, 5k a pop. I do it for my children, fully knowing I am being ripped off. Everything from calling hotels deluxe, which in reality are pretty holiday inns, gouged for ticket prices, gouged on dining for extremely average food, terrible bus service. We will go & have a great time again. It just seems to me that Disney keeps raising their prices while all of there services are slipping.

I hate to come off as harsh, but this is the way DVC does business. It doesn't matter much what you have to say to management....that's the policy. Why in heaven's name would you stay in a DVC accomodation if you don't like the way they work? We pay dues for certain amenities...I sure as heck don't want to pay more dues because people come along who feel they have to have clean towels every day. This isn't the Ritz-Carlton here...it's a timeshare at DisneyWorld.
And trash? You can take it to the trash area yourself if you choose.
DVC is less costly for accomodations for a reason....no daily housekeeping is one of those reasons. Perhaps you may not be a good fit for DVC if you have to have daily housekeeping.

I know that when I took my friend and her dd to WDW to celebrate our dd's 13th birthdays, she was horrified to find that she wasn't getting fresh towels, especially faceclothes every day...I tried to explain that that's what happens. If she wants more, she had to pay for them. She didn't, but I gave her our extra faceclothes and hand towels.

Again, I apologize if I sound harsh. But, if someone rents points from someone, getting a pretty fantastic deal I would imagine, they should realize what the rules are before committing. Pay regular rates at a resort? You get daily housekeeping. Use DVC via point usage? No daily housekeeping. Trash and towel on day 4, full cleaning on day 8 or so.
