I was just wondering what the main differences are between Vista, Chatham, and Patterson.

Also, how many people would you recommend rooming with?

Any other housing tips? Thanks! :]

There isn't any differences between Patterson and Chatham. They are actually located across the street from each other, they take the same buses to go to work. The rooms are similar. They are very much alike.

Vista has the main difference between the two complexes. Its older, the rooms are much smaller. Its farther away (but actually closer to WDW) and its much more "Social".

I currently have 5 other roommates and I live at Vista. 4 of my roommates have to share a bathroom together however. So I would recommend maybe 2bedroom? So no one would have to share.

I'll preface this by saying Chatham is my favorite, but I'll try to remain unbiased. :)

Vista - Oldest complex. Called the "party" apartments, and it's definitely true. It was also voted one of the top places to "get laid," if that interests you. Definitely the loudest of the 3 complexes, but it's not bad by any means. I lived right beside the basketball court, though, and I would get woken up at 4 AM by the bouncing balls. There are a lot of people to meet here, and there's always something going on. Even if you don't want to party, you can make friends so easily. They have 2 pools here and a Learning Center where you can use computers and check out movies. Everything's really convenient here, if you can deal with the partying. They have their own bus stop. You can walk to Walgreens, Chick Fil A, Wendys, or the convenience store. That's always a plus, especially if you don't have a car. They only go up to 3 bedrooms, so you'll have 5 roommates max. Some are wood floors in the living room, some are carpet. I think all top floors might be wood floors. Washer/dryers are in the bottom floor hallway of each building. No pantry in the kitchen, which makes space tight.

Chatham, Patterson, and The Commons are all located at Little Lake Bryan. Vista is the only one off by itself.

Chatham - Ahh, sweet sweet Chatham. So aesthetically pleasing. I think it's the prettiest complex. I love the way it looks on the outside and inside. This one is calmer than Vista, but not as quiet as Patterson, which is what I liked about it. Some of the rooms have porches that look out over Little Lake Bryan. These go up to 4 bedrooms, so you can have up to 7 roommates. I was in a 4BR, which sounds difficult, especially regarding Kitchen space, but we had an extra refrigerator, which was awesome! Laundry rooms are more sparse, so you might have to walk a ways to do it, which might suck. Luckily, I was close to one. The carpet is really fluffy. haha. All the apartments have some sort of little outdoor porch. The living rooms are big... In general, Chatham feels really spacious. There's a really nice pool. Has its own bus stop.

Patterson - My least favorite, and the only one I haven't lived in. Spent plenty of time there, though. This is actually most people's favorite, because it's the newest complex. New, with cable jacks in each bedroom and a really nice pool, yes. Downsides: You have to walk across the street to Chatham to use their bus stop, the carpet is really thin and a type I don't like, and it's real quiet. Noise complaints are more common here, and I'm pretty loud, so I'm steering clear of this one. haha. I think the laundry facilities are like Chatham here, where they are spread out, but not at every single building? I might be wrong. Like I said, the pool is really nice. I like their kitchens a lot as well.

The Commons is only for ICPs, and I know nothing about it, except that it's nice as crap. They have a parking garage and their own washer/dryers. Lame.

Hope my opinionated answers help! :)

Chatham is BY FAR the best, and thats saying something because I live at Vista!

From your reviews, it sounds like I definitely would not want to stay at Vista Way.. I'm not much of a party kind of person. Yeah, like hanging out with friends and junk is cool.. Sleep, however, is nice. :]]

I think I'll definitely try for Chatham... If I get accepted!

haha, I'm already making plans in my mind.. :3dglasses

Where one resides will not make them change who they are as a person.

If someone currently parties all the time, they are still going to be that way no matter where they live.

If someone is a bit more sedate, that isn't going to change either.

The notion of "this complex is like this and that complex is like that" is completely ridiculous to me. The whole program is made up of a very diverse group of 18-24 year olds with a nice peppering of non-traditional students. Parties happen in all complexes. Calmness happens in all complexes.

It is all about the people you choose to surround yourself with. It doesn't make a difference which complex you are in.

I agree with the statements about the way you are is they way you are and your not likely to change based on where you live. I will say though that the fact that the complexes have labels means that people who fit those labels and stereotypes tend to pick those complexes. Thats not completely true but it is generally true.

I didn't spend a lot of time in Vista so I can't really talk about that environment. I did spend a bit of time in Patterson and I lived in Chatham so I can speak to those. Patterson is not necessarily "quiet". It has its share of parties and fun. Its very pretty but it doesn't have a lot of trees like Chatahm does.
I think Chatham is the most visually appealing. It has lots of pretty trees and because of the landscaping always felt more cozy and small to me than Patterson. I loved living at Chatham. It definitely had parties. I heard them and was occasionally annoyed by them. I just wanna say that all of the complexes have parties. The college program is populated by college students aka people who tend to party. Another thing about chatham is that not all of the apartments have little patio thingys. Mine had what was obviously supposed to be a patio/balcony but it was enclosed. So it was just an awkward space next to the obvious living room area. I know all of the apts on the front of my building were like that too. If I do the program again I would like to live in a 1 bdrm Chatham. Its the same price as a 2 bdrm and only like 2 or 3 dollars cheaper that a Patterson 1 and 2 bdrm.

Thats my two cents. :)

Yeah, I kind of assumed there would be parties in each complex.. But I agree with Frizzbird that if people think Vista Way is the party complex, more party people might tend to house there.

Plus, InPerfectClouds made Chatham's carpet sound luxurious, haha :]]

My Chatham carpet was a bit... odd. Half of the apartment had obviously older carpet. My room fell on that side. It was a darker shade of green compared to the other side and more squooshed down. It was just kinda gross compared to the new stuff. The newer side was nice and fluffy though. :D

Hey! I have a question about the apartment complexes... do they all have gyms?

I'm a runner and during the summer months down there it will be too hot out to get any real running in so all I'm looking for is a treadmill, nothing fancy.

-nodnod- They do!

Chatham is the best complex... sorry, I'm biased. :D Lived there in '09 and am living there again this winter. LOVE IT.

Hey just wondering, ummm do you get to choose what complex you want to go to or get assigned one?

CP people get a choice and it's first come first serve. But Career Start people didn't get one they got placed in Vista.

Do all of the complexes have wellness apartments

It appears that Chatham is the best, but what is #2 (for a wellness)?

If its first come first serve is that for the program time (spring/spring advantage) or for within the date (Feb 2/Feb7)? - my S20 is coming Feb 7 will all of the Chatham apts be full?

Its on the date. They leave apartments open so that people on later dates aren't forced to live in Vista if they don't want too.

Vista isn't as bad as it was made out to be. I heard horror stories about it before I did my program. I dont doubt that it is definitely showing its age now. I did find it eerily funny watching a huge party happening 2 buildings over when I got off the bus after a long day work. :lmao: I definitely want to try Chatham if I get accepted this time

It's really hard to get a good grasp of the complexes till you live there honestly. You can do all the reading in the world online but with differences between buildings even within the same complex it's really hard to figure out what you'll like the best. My two bedroom at Chatham felt way bigger than my friend's three bedroom at Vista or another friend's at Patterson. Ours was even different than the guys on the other side of the same building because they had a balcony and we didn't. All in all, it's never gonna be what you expect. Which I guess is true for the CP in general... ;)
