Hello, all! For DH's birthday, I am Considering a 1-2 night stay at Howard Johnson's during Labor Day weekend (am aware it's also the Half Marathon weekend). Want to being away from home, water park & pool, relax at DTD.

I was looking at the prices. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between buildings two versus buildings 3-6?

What is the location difference? Noise differences? Conveniences? TIA!

One of the biggest difference is that Building 2 has an elevator and the others don't. It's not really a big deal since 3-6 are only 2 stories unless you have a stroller. We had to leave the stroller in the car the couple times we ended up on the 2nd floor in those buildings.

Buildings 3-6 are two story buildings with no elevators. The rooms on the top floor have a big skylight so if you're trying to sleep in/nap and don't like light it could be a bad thing. Or it could be a good thing if you like lots of natural light in the room. All these rooms have 2 double beds. Last I was there these rooms did not have microwaves. They do still have fridges and keurig coffee makers. I have stayed in these rooms many times and they work great for us.

I have never stayed in building 2 but I believe these rooms do have microwaves and the beds would all be bigger and there is an elevator. I've heard this is a pretty quiet location but can't tell you for sure.

I have stayed in bldg. 2 three times. The first two were very quiet (1st floor near Harbor Blvd., and 3rd floor near the highway). The third time we were on the first floor near the highway with our door right across from a hallway window, and we heard/felt the rumbling from the highway all the time. As a person that is overly sensitive to low pitched sounds I really was not happy with my room. They tried to give us another option, but it didn't work out. We are going to be trying bldgs 3 - 6 next time.

We have stayed in building 2 on 3 trips. Yes, they do have microwaves and 2 queen size beds - the main reason we choose building 2 every time. The rooms are also larger and more efficiently laid out IMO. All 3 times we were on the 4th floor, freeway side. I never heard any freeway noise inside the hotel. Our rooms faced the garden pool, had nice big balconies (some rooms' balconies are smaller) and it was quiet and peaceful (except when the fireworks are exploding). Building 2 is the farthest away, but it only adds one more minute of walking. Any future stays at the HOJO, we will be requesting building 2, and the 4th floor.

I personally prefer Building 1 but have stayed in Building 2 and it was nice too.

I have stayed in all of the buildings. Building 2 has more room and larger beds, but is the furtherest building. I never stayed on the highway side only the pool side. Building 1 was just okay in my opinion. The rooms facing Harbor/Dl were fine and the view rooms were nice. But, once we stayed on the freeway side. Even with the sound proofing you could feel the trucks go by....and really could not use your balcony. We now go for the cheaper rooms in the center. Easy access...I like the Mary Blair artwork, and it is plenty big for us. The big difference is the double beds vs.queen beds. But,I love the skylights on the second floor. Only drawback is if you have a stroller you have to carry it (and sleeping child) up a flight of stairs.

Thanks for your help everyone!!! Still not sure what to do...if we decide to bite the billet and book, I may go for building 2 & request pool vs street/highway side! :)

We've stayed in building 2 multiple times and building 3-6 once. All the rooms in bldg 2 overlook the pool. Because of the way the building wraps partially around the pool, some of the rooms are closer to the freeway, while others are closer to Harbor Blvd. We could hear a slight rumbling from the freeway when we stayed closer to the highway end of the building, but with the A/C going it was barely noticeable. These rooms are considered deluxe level rooms and are more expensive than buildings 3-6, which are considered standard rooms. Building 2 was much quieter, with rooms located on only one side of the interior corridor. The one time we stayed in building 3-6 we had two rooms. The view from my son's room was of someone working in their office in the main lobby building. It was a little awkward for him to have his drapes open. The building was very noisy too. The doors seemed to slam shut and the building shook every time one was closed. It really made it difficult to go back to the room for a mid-afternoon break. While we love HoJo's we haven't stayed there in over four years. Since Carsland opened, their prices have really skyrocketed and we've since discovered the joys of staying at BWPPI and the convenience being so close to the park entrance.
