Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I am assuming to rent the points I am making the reservations for someone and handling everything.

What is involved w transferring the points?

Transfering point to another DVC owner and from then on they are responsible for making the reservations and such. Technically you are not suppose to get compensation for your transfered points.

When you rent out your points you wll be making reservations and the points stay under your control.

Plus there are limitations on using transferred points. You have to transfer current year points (like 2011 points into a 2011 contract). You can't borrow transferred points, but you can bank them. They keep their UY and resort.

When you transfer points to another member, Member Services moves the points from your account into the other member's account who can then use them to make their own reservations. You are no longer involved once the transfer is completed since the points then belong to the receiving member to use as they like.

You can transfer points either into or out of your account only once per Use Year so many members are unwilling to transfer a small number of points to another member because it uses up their one and only transfer for that UY.

When you "rent points", you are really using your points to make a reservation for someone else and renting them that reservation. You control the reservation and would be the one to make changes, add the dining plan, etc. Even if the other person is a DVC member, they cannot do anything with a reservation made with your points.

Also if you transfer points and you don't get paid, (which is against the rules), there is nothing that you can do to get the points back except go to court. Renting and transfers are between you and someone else, Disney will not get involved.

As an example, if I want to make a reservation at x resort at the 11 month mark for, say, a March 15, 2013 checkin, and I get a transfer today from a feb UY of the same resort, would the transfer necessarily be of 2012 points? Which means I would need to separately bank them for the 2013 ressie? If so, I assume i would need to be careful i'm not getting 2011 banked points? Or could I get a transfer of 2013 points? Does it matter that I have an October UY myself? Can I combine my points with the transferred points for a single night, or would I have to split the stay between my points and the transferred points for a certain whole number of days each?

You would never get banked points or borrowed points because banked and borrowed points cannot be transferred. If the trip was in March 2013, you would want to transfer points for that trip to be during the current year. So April to Dec points (and I know there are some months that don't have points, but I don't remember which months other than Jan), would work if they were 2012 points (March 2013 would be during the 2012 UY for those months). Those points would be put into your 2012 UY. They would keep their UY and resort.

If you got Feb or march 2013 points, the points would go into your Oct 2013 UY. If you got Feb or March 2012 points, they would go into your Octo 2012 UY and you would want to bank them to use them for a March 2013 trip (otherwise, they would expire before your trip in March 2013).

Sorry I'm being dense, but when you say "they would keep their UY and resort", are you referring to the calendar year use year (e.g. 2012 vs. 2013)? If so, then I think I understand -- the banking deadlines would be based on my October deadlines rather than their old February deadlines. So, if I received a transfer of current february UY points (2012), they would be put into my October 2012 UY and I couldn't use them to, say, book a vacation in August, 2012, even though as original February 2012 UY points, they could have been used for that time? But if they went into my October 2012 UY account, wouldn't they be ripe (e.g. no banking necessary) for a March 2013 vacation?

If the points "would keep their UY [i.e. february] and resort," then I think I'm confused again, because it would seem that if they went into my Oct UY, they couldn't keep their Feb. UY characteristics. I guess I don't know what those points being "put into your 2012 UY" means in that instance.

the pts keep their Feb UY characteristics. they do not go into your oct UY. the transferred pts are separate.

if you received a transfer of current february UY points (2012), they would be valid for stays from feb 1, 2012 to jan 31, 2013. you have the option of banking the feb pts so that they would be valid for stays from feb 1, 2013 to jan 31, 2014. (transferred pts may be banked but banked pts may not be transferred.)

This is why transferred points don't show up on the website. They never become your UY or your resort. So if you have an Oct UY and you transfer Feb UY points, they will always be Feb UY points.

Transferred points show when they transfer out, but not transferred into your account.
